The research project “Enhancing Competitiveness of Coconut-Based Enterprises in Eastern Visayas: Business Model Innovation through Dynamic Capability and Co-Creation Approach" successfully conducted the Dynamic Capability Training for KAMMPIL Agricoop on August 5, 2026, in Jaro, Leyte.

The training equipped participants with practical knowledge on the three core dimensions of dynamic capability: sensing market opportunities through marketing intelligence, seizing opportunities through strategic decision-making, and transforming organizational practices through change management. The activity also provided a venue for participants to reflect on their cooperative’s current capabilities and strengthen their commitment to developing a more adaptive, competitive, and market-responsive coconut-based enterprise.

Through collaborative learning and capacity-building initiatives, VSU-DBM continues to support farmer organizations and cooperatives in building resilient enterprises and creating sustainable livelihood opportunities in Eastern Visayas.

𝗩𝗦𝗨-𝗗𝗕𝗠 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘆 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝘄𝗰𝗮𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘂𝘁 𝗙𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗢𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗮𝘁 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝘂𝗺

The Department of Business and Management of Visayas State University proudly recognizes Ms. Doryn Jan Lauzon Avila, Department Head, for representing VSU-DBM in the 8th UC Faculty Forum 2026 hosted by Maejo University, Chiang Mai, Thailand.

As part of the international research forum themed “Intelligent Wellbeing Agriculture toward Sustainable Development,” Ms. Avila presented the study entitled:

“𝘌𝘹𝘱𝘭𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘋𝘺𝘯𝘢𝘮𝘪𝘤 𝘊𝘢𝘱𝘢𝘣𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘊𝘰𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘶𝘵 𝘍𝘢𝘳𝘮𝘦𝘳 𝘖𝘳𝘨𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘻𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴: 𝘌𝘷𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘌𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘯 𝘝𝘪𝘴𝘢𝘺𝘢𝘴, 𝘗𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘱𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘴.”

The presented research forms part of the DOST–PCAARRD-funded project entitled “𝘌𝘯𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘊𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘦𝘵𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘊𝘰𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘶𝘵-𝘣𝘢𝘴𝘦𝘥 𝘌𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘱𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘦𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘌𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘯 𝘝𝘪𝘴𝘢𝘺𝘢𝘴: 𝘉𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘔𝘰𝘥𝘦𝘭 𝘐𝘯𝘯𝘰𝘷𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘛𝘩𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩 𝘋𝘺𝘯𝘢𝘮𝘪𝘤 𝘊𝘢𝘱𝘢𝘣𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘊𝘰𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘈𝘱𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘢𝘤𝘩,” where Ms. Avila serves as one of the project staff members.

The study highlights the important role of coconut farmer organizations (CFOs) in supporting smallholder farmers and sustaining rural livelihoods in Eastern Visayas. Anchored on the dynamic capability framework, the research examined how organizations develop their capacities in sensing opportunities, seizing resources, and transforming their operations to respond to changing market conditions and pursue long-term competitiveness.

Findings revealed the importance of strengthening organizational capabilities beyond access to external support by enhancing market awareness, systematic opportunity identification, resource mobilization, participatory decision-making, and institutionalized learning and adaptation.

Congratulations, Ms. Doryn Jan Avila, together with the research team, for representing the Department of Business and Management in advancing impactful research that supports the growth and resilience of coconut communities in Eastern Visayas.

The VSU Department of Business and Management, through the project “𝘌𝘯𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘊𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘦𝘵𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘊𝘰𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘶𝘵-𝘉𝘢𝘴𝘦𝘥 𝘌𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘱𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘦𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘌𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘯 𝘝𝘪𝘴𝘢𝘺𝘢𝘴: 𝘉𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘔𝘰𝘥𝘦𝘭 𝘐𝘯𝘯𝘰𝘷𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘛𝘩𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩 𝘋𝘺𝘯𝘢𝘮𝘪𝘤 𝘊𝘢𝘱𝘢𝘣𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘊𝘰𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘈𝘱𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘢𝘤𝘩,” conducted the NAMACA Capability Building Training on July 28–30, 2026, in Caibiran, Biliran.

The three-day training equipped NAMACA members, officers, and staff with practical knowledge and skills in marketing intelligence, opportunity scanning, strategic decision-making, change management, personal entrepreneurial competencies, Business Model Canvas development, market-driven business model redesign, persuasion, and negotiation. Through interactive lectures, workshops, and group discussions, the participants assessed their current business model and developed strategies to make their coconut-based enterprise more responsive to market needs.
