Nestled between the turquoise shores of the Camotes Sea and the lush, towering slopes of Mt. Pangasugan lies one of Baybay Cityโs most treasured landscapesโthe Visca Forest and VSU Garden Resort. These two attractions, located within the vast campus of Visayas State University (VSU), stand as enduring symbols of the cityโs natural wealth, academic excellence, and rising potential as an eco-friendly tourist destination. As Baybay City prepares to welcome the entire Eastern Visayas for EVRAA 2026, these gems are more significant than ever.
The 574.2-hectare Visca Forest stretches from the seacoast to the upper ranges of Mt. Pangasugan, offering an extraordinary blend of marine, lowland, and upland ecosystems. Recognized as one of the most biologically diverse zones in the region, the forest shelters endemic species, thriving watersheds, and countless native trees. More than its natural beauty, the forest is an educational powerhouse. It serves as the open-air classroom and research base of VSUโs College of Forestry and Environmental Science (CFES), a CHED-recognized Center of Excellence in Forestry Education.
Complementing the forestโs academic vitality is the serene and picturesque VSU Garden Resort, a favorite refuge for travelers, families, students, and researchers. What makes the Garden Resort especially appealing is its eco-friendly atmosphereโthe silence of nature, the fresh mountain breeze, and the calm rhythm of the waves create a peaceful retreat that warmly welcomes every EVRAA athlete, coach, parent, and visitor. Across all these aspects, Visca remains one of the strongest pillars that propel Baybay Cityโs vision of becoming a nature-smart, education-driven, and eco-conscious city. As Baybay City proudly prepares to host EVRAA 2026, thousands of athletes, parents, coaches, and visitors will experience first-hand the cityโs vibrant offerings, and at the heart of this welcome stands the Visca Forest and Garden Resortโa perfect embodiment of Baybayโs culture of hospitality, beauty, and sustainability.
EVRAA delegates will not only compete in sports competitions; they will also witness a city rich in natural wonders, academic brilliance, and community pride. The Visca Forest and Garden Resort will serve as a visual and experiential reminder that Baybay City is more than a hostโit is a destination worth celebrating.
With its unmatched blend of nature, science, leisure, and culture, Baybay City proves it has far more to offer than meets the eye. And as the spotlight shines on EVRAA 2026, the Visca Forest and Garden Resort will undoubtedly glow as Baybay City's brightest green pride.
95 days to go! See you in the EVRAA Meet 2026!

At the gateway of Baybay City stands a landmark that quietly commands attentionโthe Baybay City Welcome Obelisk. More than a towering structure marking oneโs arrival, it serves as a symbolic pause, inviting locals and visitors alike to reflect on the cityโs vibrant past and promising future. Its presence blends the grace of history with the forward-looking energy that now defines Baybay, making it a natural emblem of identity and pride.
Inscribed on the obelisk are the profound words attributed to Dr. Josรฉ Rizal: โMuero sin ver la aurora brillar sobre mi patriaโฆ! vosotros, que la habeis de ver, saludadlaโฆ no os olvideis de los que han caรญdo durante la noche!โ Translated, it reads: โI die without seeing the dawn shine over my native landโฆ! you who will see it salute itโฆ do not forget those who fell during the night!โ These lines, etched in stone, remind every passerby that the freedoms and opportunities enjoyed today were built on the courage and sacrifices of those who came before. In a city that continues to rise, this message resonates even more deeply, grounding progress in gratitude.
The obelisk, therefore, is not merely a structureโit is a storyteller. It stands as a witness to Baybayโs evolution from a coastal settlement into a growing educational, agricultural, and tourism hub in Leyte. Surrounded by lush landscapes and the gentle rhythm of the coastline, the landmark mirrors the cityโs character: resilient, welcoming, and rooted in heritage. For travelers entering Baybay, the monument becomes a quiet companion, greeting them with the assurance that this land values both memory and aspiration.
As Baybay City prepares to host the Eastern Visayas Regional Athletic Association (EVRAA) Meet in 2026, the obelisk gains renewed significance. It symbolizes the dawn Rizal dreamed ofโa future shaped by unity, youth, and progress. The upcoming EVRAA is more than a sporting event; it is an opportunity for Baybay to showcase its capability, hospitality, and beauty. The landmark stands as a reminder that the cityโs readiness today is the result of years of perseverance, collective effort, and unwavering community spirit.
In this moment of anticipation, the Baybay City Welcome Obelisk becomes a fitting metaphor for what awaits the region in 2026. It points upward, echoing the cityโs directionโtoward development, leadership, and the embrace of new horizons. As athletes, visitors, and delegations soon enter Baybay, they will be met by a symbol that honors the past while confidently welcoming the future. And just as the inscription urges, the city proudly salutes this new dawn, carrying forward the legacy of those who lit the path before us.
