BAYBAY CITY, Leyte — Baybay City Senior High School (BCSHS) notched a dual victory at the 14th Binaybayon Festival as Pundok Mag-uuma clinched first runner-up in the Ritual Showdown while Sofia Mae Villagonza secured the 4th Runner-Up title in the Festival Belle search at the Baybay City Sports Complex, Dec. 26.
Highlighting the city’s flourishing agricultural sector and deep devotion to the Immaculate Conception, the performance marked a significant leap for the school as they improved upon last year’s second runner-up finish during their debut performance.
“I felt extremely happy and overwhelmed because we did not expect to place as first runner-up; it was a mix of excitement, pride, and gratitude,” shared dancer Crislyn Mapa regarding the group's achievement.
Another performer, Dearyel Loreto, dedicated the win to the performers who exerted great effort throughout the rehearsals and the teachers who remained deeply committed to the school's festival participation.
Mr. Jimwell Morales, a BCSHS teacher and lead choreographer, emphasized that the performance served as a spiritual offering to Mary of the Immaculate Conception, the heart of the city’s festivities.
“We offered this dance to Mary of the Immaculate Conception, hoping to honor her through our dedication and hard work, and by giving our very best as representatives of our school,” Morales added.
The school delegation brought home a certificate of participation, a trophy, and cash prize, marking a milestone rooted in teamwork and a commitment to preserving cultural heritage.
