On June 11, 2026, the graduating students of the Department of Business Management at VSU-Isabel took part in a consultation that became more meaningful through the personal visit of FME Dean. His travel to the campus gave the students the opportunity to speak with him directly, receive guidance, and reflect on their plans after graduation. According to Ms. Jheanne T. Lubiano, Head of DBM-Isabel, the students were initially nervous and excited, but the atmosphere soon became warmer as the consultation developed into an open conversation about graduation requirements, career preparation, future goals, responsibilities, and the uncertainty of entering a new stage of life.
During the session, the students were encouraged to move forward with confidence, integrity, professionalism, and resilience. Ms. Lubiano shared that the most memorable part was seeing them gradually become more comfortable as they listened, asked questions, and received recognition for the work they had done. More than a formal consultation, the visit gave the graduating students reassurance that they were not facing the transition alone. As they prepare to leave the university and begin their professional journeys, they carry with them the knowledge that the Faculty of Management and Economics believes in their abilities and is proudly rooting for their success. ๐งกโจ

Catering Management students of the BS Hospitality Management (BS HM) program under FME conducted a live dessert buffet presentation on Friday, February 27, prior to the FME monthly meeting. The setup featured a professionally styled dessert spread complete with labeled selections, elevated display stands, floral arrangements, and cohesive table styling, showcasing their skills in food preparation, presentation, and event setup.
Before the FME Executive Committee (ExeCom) and other faculty members proceeded with tasting and evaluation, the students delivered a short presentation explaining their concept, menu selection, and detailed costing. They demonstrated how they computed food costs and determined pricing per pax, applying practical principles in budgeting and cost control essential in catering operations.
Beyond the technical output, the activity reflects how students and faculty can collaborate creatively across various platforms and engagementsโnot limited to traditional events. FME takes pride in the studentsโ initiative and innovation and looks forward to more opportunities where academic training, creativity, and industry engagement can intersect to open new and meaningful business possibilities.

In the foothills of the Himalayas, amid thin air and cold mornings, farmers harvest tea leaves by hand as Mount Everest rests quietly in the distance. What feels like a simple cup of tea to many of us carries a much bigger story in Ilam, Nepal, one built on cooperation and shared growth.
From January 7โ9, 2026, Dr. Mark C. Ratilla, Dean of the Faculty, represented the Philippines in the Asian Productivity Organization (APO) Multi-country Observational Study Mission on Productivity Gainsharing in Agriculture held in Ilam, Nepal. During the mission, participants from different countries learned how productivity gainsharing works in agricultural cooperatives and farmer-led enterprisesโa system where farmers receive a fair share of the extra income created when productivity increases, product quality improves, or farm operations become more efficient.
Field visits included tea, dairy, cardamom, and agritourism enterprises. In the tea sector, participants learned how smallholder farming in eastern Nepal gradually evolved into organized farmer groups and cooperatives over several decades. Through long-term cooperation, policy support, and collective effort, tea cooperatives strengthened their production systems, established processing facilities, and gained access to export marketsโwhile ensuring that economic gains are shared among farmer-members.
The lessons from the mission are highly relevant to Philippine agriculture and will help strengthen FMEโs instruction, research, and extension work at Visayas State University, particularly in promoting cooperatives, value-added enterprises, and market-oriented agribusiness strategies. More importantly, the experience is a reminder that agriculture is ultimately about peopleโand that every cup connects us to farmers working together, one step at a time, one leaf at a time. โ๐ฑ
