𝑨 𝑺𝒕𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑼𝒏𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒊𝒕𝒚 𝑺𝒖𝒑𝒓𝒆𝒎𝒆 𝑺𝒕𝒖𝒅𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝑪𝒐𝒖𝒏𝒄𝒊𝒍 - 𝑩𝒂𝒚𝒃𝒂𝒚 𝒐𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑹𝒆𝒎𝒐𝒗𝒂𝒍 𝒐𝒇 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑷𝒊𝒍𝒍𝒂𝒓'𝒔 𝑬𝒅𝒊𝒕𝒐𝒓𝒊𝒂𝒍 𝑩𝒂𝒏𝒏𝒆𝒓 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑺𝒖𝒔𝒑𝒆𝒏𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒐𝒇 𝒊𝒕𝒔 𝑨𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒗𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒆𝒔 𝒅𝒖𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑩𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒌 𝑲𝒂𝒎𝒑𝒖𝒔 2026.

The USSC-VSU Baybay expresses its strong criticism over the reported removal of the editorial banner of The Pillar, the official student publication of the University of Eastern Philippines, and the subsequent suspension of its activities on September 17, 2026.

The reported circumstances, the confrontation with University Security Forces and the stoppage of their program, raise serious concerns on the protection of campus press freedom. Republic Act No. 7079 and the Constitution itself guarantee freedom of speech, expression, and the press; disagreements between student publications and university authorities must be settled through dialogue and due process, never through actions that compromise the freedom, safety, or dignity of student journalists.

We stand with The Pillar and with all student publications in defending their right to inform, scrutinize, question, and speak on matters concerning their university communities.

The student voice does not exist to remain silent, and no university should fear the voice of its students.

Fifty-four years ago, martial law was declared, and democracy was silenced overnight. What followed were nine years of fear, censorship, and grief — years marked by disappearances, abuses, and a truth that was buried but never erased.

Today, we remember not just to mourn, but to warn. History does not repeat itself through tanks and curfews alone; it repeats through silence, through forgetting, and through letting the truth be rewritten.

As students, and as the youth entrusted with tomorrow, we carry the responsibility to remember accurately and to speak honestly. The freedoms we live by today were not free, they were earned by those who never got to see them.

We stand with the victims. We honor their memory. We choose truth over silence.

A proclamation signed on September 21, 1972, forced a nation into silence and cost thousands of lives and liberties. As we mark the 54th Martial Law Commemoration, we gather tomorrow to stand against historical distortion and impunity, and to show that the Viscan community remembers the truth.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗨𝗦𝗦𝗖 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗯𝗼𝗱𝘆.

After numerous consultations, deliberations, revisions, and collective effort, the Constitution and By-Laws of the University Supreme Student Council - Baybay Campus has officially been approved and ratified by the student body.

This milestone is not simply the adoption of a governing document. It is a renewed commitment to uphold a council that listens, represents, and serves with integrity.

Your rights are not ours to grant. They are yours to hold, and ours to defend.

A new chapter in student governance begins.

Hon. Kyle L. Ambid, Visayas State University Student Regent, officially took his oath of office at the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) in Quezon City during the 126th Meeting of the VSU Board of Regents, witnessed by Dr. Myrna Q. Mallari and the members of the Board.

This significant milestone marks the beginning of his service as the representative of Viscan students in the University’s highest governing body. With this responsibility comes the commitment to amplify the students’ voices, carry their concerns and aspirations, and advance their interests at the Board.

As he begins this new chapter of service, may his leadership remain grounded in integrity, accountability, and genuine representation.
