FCIC’s Cervical Cancer Awareness Seminar 2026 National Women’s Month Celebration

The 2026 National Women’s Month Celebration (NWMC) endeavors to highlight the gains achieved for women and girls, assess actions towards gender equality, and look forward to steps that must be taken to ensure continued progress in empowering women.

Government agencies and local government units (LGUs) are encouraged to organize activities that address gender issues within their mandates and assess internal concerns that require attention.
In line with this, the FCIC GAD Office, headed by Dr. Maria Victoria A. Gonzaga, GAD Focal, and the FCIC Health Department, headed by Sister Merly Plimaco, OSF, outlined activities for the National Women’s Month Celebration. One of the flagship activities focuses on the physical health and wellness of women employees, particularly on the prevention of cervical cancer.

As part of this initiative, a Cervical Cancer Awareness Seminar with Dr. Claudette Hazel Añano Esic, Obstetrician-Gynecologist, as our esteemed Resource Person, was conducted. The seminar was held on March 18, 2026, from 1:30 to 4:00 PM at the FCIC Audio Visual Room.

With Dr. Esic’s expertise, our women employees gained valuable knowledge and practical insights on cervical cancer prevention, supporting their health and empowerment.

2026 National Women’s Month Theme and ASEAN Alignment

The 2026 NWMC continues to amplify women’s leadership across sectors by reclaiming and embodying the Babaylan model—anchored in wisdom, compassion, courage, and deep responsibility to the community. It affirms gender equality not only as a policy principle but also as a cultural legacy that has long shaped Filipino society.

Through this campaign, women are empowered to lead transformative change in families, communities, Philippine society, and the ASEAN region—demonstrating that gender-responsive leadership drives social progress, regional collaboration, and sustainable development. The celebration reinforces a vital truth: when women lead, communities thrive, societies advance, and nations grow stronger.

Specifically, this year’s celebration aims to:

Showcase women’s leadership and contributions by demonstrating how Filipino women are already leading change in governance, peace, security, and economic development in the country and in the ASEAN region by highlighting pathways to embody Babaylan-inspired leadership;

Promote gender-responsive programs and policies to ensure women have equitable access to opportunities, resources, and meaningful participation in decision-making spaces, enabling them to exercise leadership that benefits communities and drives inclusive growth. Empower marginalized and underrepresented women, including rural women, indigenous women, and women with disabilities, by providing capacity-building and meaningful engagements, ensuring all women can participate fully and lead in their communities and sectors.

Strengthen multi-sectoral collaboration and accountability, engaging national government agencies (NGAs), local government units (LGUs), civil society organizations (CSOs), and other stakeholders to scale up initiatives that achieve visible outcomes for women, supporting leadership that fosters transformative change nationally and regionally.

2025 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women, Cultivating Activity and Eastern Visayas HEIs GAD Focal Assembly
December 16, 2025, Radiant Hotel, Tacloban City

The assembly was participated in by all GAD Focal Points of the different HEIs in the region. Engr. Nelly L. Labrada, ESII/CHED GAD Focal, introduced the participants.
Dr. Maximo C. Aljibe, Ph.D., DPM, J.D.; CESO III, Director IV, CHEDRO VIII, welcomed the participants, emphasizing each role in mainstreaming GAD in HEIs and ensuring the implementation of the Safe Space Act so that everyone feels valued, empowered, and respected. The highlight of the assembly was the orientation of RA 11313, Safe Spaces Act (Bawal Bastos Law ) by Mr. Leo Christian V. Lauzon of the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) National Gender and Development Resource Program (NGRP).
