Instructor Maria Dulce L. Alibangbang, faculty member of the Department of Fisheries, Faculty of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences, presented her research during the 8th International Conference on Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences (ICFAS 2025) held on November 17–19, 2025 at Grand Xing, Iloilo City.

This year’s conference gathered experts, scientists, academicians, researchers, industry practitioners, and students from various institutions, anchored on the theme “Fisheries at the Forefront: Ensuring Food Safety, Security, and Sustainability.”

Instr. Alibangbang delivered a technical paper on the utilization of crab-derived chitosan as a natural biopolymer for the preservation and processing of jackfruit-based beverages, highlighting its potential applications in improving and enhancing the overall quality of value-added food products.

Dr. Quenstein D. Lauzon, Chancellor of VSU Tolosa and faculty member of the Department of Aquatic Sciences, served as an evaluator for the Center of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Research and Development (CFARRD) In-House Review for Research and Extension Projects for 2026 Funding, held on October 16–17, 2025, at Samar State University (SSU) in Catbalogan City.

Dr. Lauzon joined a panel of esteemed evaluators from Northwest Samar State University (NwSSU) and Samar State University (SSU). Faculty-researchers from the SSU Mercedes and Main Campus presented their research and extension proposals in lined with the CFARRD Thrusts and Priorities, which include Sustainable Fisheries and Marine Conservation, Climate Change, Pollution, and Ocean-Human Health, Marine Genomics, Biotechnology, and Innovations in Marine Research, Ecosystem-Based Marine Spatial Planning and Socio-Economic Impacts and Policy.

The Department of Aquatic Sciences extends its warmest gratitude to the Director of Research and Innovation Center of Samar State University, Ms. Diana Shane Balindo for inviting Dr. Lauzon to contribute as an evaluator in this significant activity.

𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐊 | 𝐃𝐓𝐄 𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐬𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐬𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐫-𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐩

VSU Tolosa Department of Teacher Education hosted a seminar-workshop on Research Capability Building last October 8, 2025, at the KOICA Conference Room. This seminar-workshop aims to enhance the research knowledge and skills of faculty members in support of the university’s mission to promote academic excellence and innovation through research.

The capacity-building session covered discussions on the Utilization of Harmonized Gender and Development Guidelines (HGDG) in Research by Instr. Lovely L. Enfermo, and a Re-echo on Policy Brief presented by Instr. Mervin Clyde Cañanes, culminating in an afternoon of hands-on research workshop.

The program will continue with its second session on November 5, 2025, to further strengthen the research capabilities of the DTE faculty.
