NORSU BSC— Promoting sustainability through campus entrepreneurship, student innovators from Negros Oriental State University Bayawan-Sta. Catalina (NORSU-BSC) launched a product-selling and free tasting activity at the College of Agriculture and Forestry (CAF) Building today, Oct. 15.

Spearheaded by student innovators 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐈𝐛-𝐢𝐛, 𝐂𝐥𝐚𝐢𝐳𝐲𝐛𝐞𝐥𝐥 𝐌𝐢𝐫𝐚𝐥, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐉𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐭 𝐒𝐨𝐫𝐞ñ𝐨 under the Saba Team, the project features sweet food snacks crafted from repurposed Saba bananas aimed at minimizing food waste while offering affordable campus treats.

Beyond serving sweet treats and offering a free taste to the campus community, the Saba Team demonstrates how young NORSUnians can drive meaningful change by transforming surplus food into high-value products. Their initiative serves as a reminder that small ideas, driven by purpose and teamwork, can shape a more sustainable future for campus entrepreneurship.

24 out of 33 examinees passed, achieving an impressive 72.73% passing rate.

On October 10, 2026, fourth-year students majoring in Agronomy and Animal Science from the College of Agriculture and Forestry participated in a Mangrove Tree Planting Activity at the Caranoche Mangrove Conservation and Ecotourism Site and Vanilla Beach in Caranoche, Sta. Catalina, Negros Oriental.

The activity was led by Dr. Guilbert Nicanor Atillo in collaboration with the University Extension and Community Services Office. It brought together faculty members, staff, and students from Negros Oriental State University (NORSU) Main Campus, Guihulngan Campus, and Bayawan–Sta. Catalina Campus. Also present were Mrs. Genelie C. Magayanes and Dr. Ruel Tubongbanua, Assistant Dean of the Campus.

The initiative aimed to contribute to coastal ecosystem restoration, strengthen community participation, and raise awareness of the importance of mangroves in enhancing coastal resilience and preserving biodiversity.

The activity was conducted in coordination with the local beneficiary, the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Sta. Catalina, and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), through its Municipal Environment Office. Mangrove seedlings were provided by the Department of Agriculture (DA) to support the planting initiative.

Through this collaborative effort, NORSU continues to promote environmental stewardship, community engagement, and sustainable practices among students and partner communities. The activity also highlighted the importance of collective action in protecting coastal resources for present and future generations.
