Gonzales of the UP College of Agriculture, led the formation of the Maquiling School Club which eventually founded the Maquiling School. The school started its first class consisting of five kindergarten pupils on May 5, 1924. November 1932-The school was incorporated and was given a building of its own inside the university campus. President Gonzales’s vision was embodied in the mission to make t
he school a top-rated, service-oriented, and model school system. With the new name, Maquiling School, Incorporated became a non-stock, non-profit corporation where the parents of the enrollees became corporate members.
1942-The invading Japanese soldiers made this same building into a garrison.
1945-It was burned by the retreating Japanese soldiers on February 27, 1945 and later rebuilt as a hospital, and much later as a Rest and Recreation Building used by the American soldiers. After the Japanese Invasion, classes resumed in 1945, with Mrs. The building was rebuilt and completed on March 22, 1950. SY 1957-1958-The school extended its program from Kindergarten to Grade VII. With the establishment of the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) in 1960, the school expansion became more remarkable. Through the support of IRRI, recruitment of quality teachers, construction of classrooms, upgrading of facilities and equipment were made possible.
1974-The school celebrated its 50th Foundation Year with Mrs. Thelma Pagsuberon as Principal. SY 1977-1978-The steady increase in student population force the school to move from the regular morning-afternoon session to modified double-single session to address the problem of over population.
1982-A new scheme called MASETF (Maquiling School Educational Trust Fund) was implemented. The program enabled the deposit that each member pays to be refunded upon graduation. With this, parents were relieved from paying the yearly development fund.
1990-During the 65th foundation day of the school under the supervision of Principal Amanda Lawas, a brass marker of the founder, Dr. Bienvenido Gonzales, was erected in front of the Administrative Building. SY 1990-1991-The Parent-Teachers Executive Council (PTAEC) was organized to tap parents in attaining the school’s goals under the leadership of Dr. Cristino M. Collado, PTA Chairman and Mrs. Lontoc as Principal. April 13, 1991-The Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between MSI and UPLB System was signed granting the school the right to stay in this site for the next twenty (25) years. September 11, 1992-
The first Teacher’s Day celebration. Since then, it has become an annual event every second Friday of September to recognize and honor the hardworking mentors of MSI. June 6, 1995-The MSI High School Department was inaugurated with Mrs. Myrna C. De Roma as Principal. SY 1996-1997-A tie-up with MIGVON Computer Training Experts was forged to provide computer classes from grade three to second year high school. MSI High School department was likewise selected as a protégé school of the IRRI through the Adopt-A-School Program. November 1996-During the 72nd anniversary of the school, MSI buildings were dedicated to the school pioneers.
1999-With Mrs. Sonia Oropesa as Principal, sixty five (65) students who comprised the first batch proudly marched during the first commencement exercises of the High School Department. SY 1999-2002-Under the leadership of Principal Elvi T. Reyes, the Computer Education Program was offered in the school curriculum as Special Project of MSI. The position of the Assistant Principal for the High School was created to cater to the needs of a growing population. June 30, 2003-The MSI Foundation, Incorporated (MSIFI) was given recognition by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). The MSIFI is a separate organization to handle all financial matters of MSI, which was originally made up of fifteen incorporators from parents, staff and former Board member of MSI. Through President Ramon A. Razal and Principal Myrna C. de Roma a contract was signed whereby MSI as an adopted school, agreed to closely work hand in hand with the Los Baños Science Community Foundation in carrying out its objectives. April 5,2004-One of the old buildings of MSI was gutted by fire. The MSIFI spearheaded the project in Solid Waste Management Program, which gave rise to the Recycling Center and other related activities. As MSI celebrated its 80th anniversary, a nostalgic celebration was held with the theme MSI 80 Na: Balik Saya, Balik Ala-ala. June 2004-The new building together with a new Science Laboratory and Computer Laboratory was constructed in the Elementary Department. January 02, 2005-The High School building was razed by fire. With the unstinting support of the UPLB Chancellor, Dr. Wilfredo David, the MSI students were temporarily housed in the old UP Rural High School Bldg from January to March 2005. May 2005-MSI was able to come up with the new High School building. LOOKING AHEAD
Maquiling School, Inc. looks back with pride at the past eighty-three years of its colorful history. Factors like strong parent support, committed staff, active Board of Trustees, and students worthy of honor and recognition, have all contributed in making the school what it is today. At present, the school through the leadership of the Principal, Mrs. Lorna P. Angeles; Assistant Principal for the Grade School Department, Mr. Nestor T. Samson, and Assistant Principal for the High School Department, Dr. Ethylinda B. Alpuerto, and with the support of committed faculty and staff, looks at the future with conviction that its mission of providing better elementary and secondary education to children of neighboring communities, among others, will be met. The success stories of former students in various fields serve as the fuel that fires the school’s resolve to continue developing the physical, social, mental and moral faculties of the youth.
