In the midst of Artsʼ Month, The Podium is facing a controversy that concerns art, morality, consequences, and priorities⚖️. Join us at SHS-201, this February 19, from 3pm-5pm, to view a Public Debate Open House⚔️. Uncover the complexities of an art piece that challenges humanitiesʼ values⛓️‍💥

Infoslide: “Helena” is an artwork by Marco Evaristti that consists of five live goldfish placed in five functioning blenders. Viewers are given the option to press the button and activate the blenders, potentially harming the fish.

Motion:
This House, as a museum, would display Helena.

The UP Day of Remembrance marks an annual recognition of the people's voices and experiences during the Martial Law. We commemorate the losses, battles, and unjust treatment the Filipino people endured under the reign of Ferdinand Marcos Sr., and work to shed light on our government's inadequacies at present time.

Celine Villanueva, the current SHS President of UPRHS Debate Society, delivered a speech during the UP Day of Remembrance that was hosted last September 19, 2025 at the UPRHS Gymnasium:

“Dito nagiging malinaw ang ating tungkulin bilang iskolar ng bayan. Ang talumpati, ang protesta, ang pagkilos—hindi ito basta pagiging emosyonal o padalos-dalos. Hindi rin ito pakitang-tao. Ito ay tungkulin, ito ay pangangailangan. Sapagkat ang papel ng iskolar ng bayan ay hindi lang mag-aral para sa sarili, kundi ilantad ang kabulukan ng lipunan at ipanday ang lakas ng sambayanan.

Oo, mabigat at nakakatakot ang mga inaasahan sa ating balikat bilang iskolar. Pero higit na mas nakakatakot na matapos tayong paglaanan, pagkatiwalaan, at hubugin ng sambayanan—lalabas tayo rito na walang pakialam, walang paninindigan, at walang konsensya.”
