A Strong Start for Strong Readers

On July 22, 2026, School Heads from the Bauan East Sub-Office successfully conducted the First Wave of the Oral Reading Assessment in English and Filipino for School Year 2026–2027. The activity was simultaneously implemented across participating schools to determine the current reading proficiency of learners at the beginning of the school year.

The assessment served as an essential baseline in identifying learners' strengths and areas for improvement in accuracy, fluency, comprehension, and expression. Through one-on-one oral reading sessions, school heads carefully observed each learner's reading performance, ensuring that the results would provide reliable data for planning effective literacy interventions.

At Manghinao I Elementary School, the activity reflected the school's commitment to strengthening foundational literacy through collaborative leadership and quality assessment practices. The active involvement of school heads demonstrated the Department of Education's dedication to ensuring that every learner receives the support needed to become a confident and independent reader.

The results of the First Wave of the Oral Reading Assessment will guide teachers in designing targeted reading programs and interventions that respond to the individual learning needs of pupils. More importantly, the initiative reinforces the shared vision of the Bauan East Sub-Office to cultivate a strong culture of reading, promote lifelong learning, and empower every child to succeed academically and beyond.

Together, we build readers today—leaders for tomorrow.
