Day 5 out of 5 โ A Bittersweet Goodbye!
Our final day of Bridging the Literacy Gap: Building Comprehension and a Love for Reading has officially come to an endโand what a journey it has been! From shy hellos to confident readers, weโve seen so much growth in the Grade 6 students of Libjo Elementary School.
The moment we entered the room, the atmosphere was completely differentโthey were so much louder and more energetic compared to the first day, where everything felt so quiet and shy. Their energy was sky-high!
To make our last day extra special, we filled it with a variety of fun games that brought lots of laughter and smiles. We also bought food and shared a meal together inside the classroom with the students and fellow student-teachers.
In the afternoon, we began awarding our top-performing students and gave general awards to recognize everyoneโs efforts. As a simple token of appreciation, we gave each student a mini fan and a pencil. They went home with big smiles on their facesโand many of them even said they wished there was still one more Saturday with us.
Though weโre saying goodbye, weโre leaving with full hearts and unforgettable memories. Thank you, Libjo Grade 6, for allowing us to be part of your reading journey!

Day 4 out of 5 โ Almost at the Finish Line!
Weโre now on the second to the last day of Bridging the Literacy Gap: Building Comprehension and a Love for Reading, and the progress of the Grade 6 students has been incredible! Though the week has flown by, their eagerness to learn and improve remains strong.
During recess, one of the student-teachers brought her sibling along to celebrate her sibling's birthday. They even gave out loot bags filled with different treats, making the Grade 6 students extra happy!
Aside from that, we focused on their reading skills today. Each student-teacher worked one-on-one with the students, guiding them as they read stories to help them improve their fluency and comprehension. It was a productive and joyful day for everyone!
One more day to go, and weโre excited to finish strong!

Day 3 out of 5 - More Than Just Words!
We've officially passed the halfway point of Bridging the Literacy Gap: Building Comprehension and a Love of Reading at Libjo Elementary School! Today was all about going deeperโnot just reading words on a page, but genuinely comprehending and connecting with them.
Grade 6 students are getting more comfortable sharing their ideas, asking questions, and participating in activities as well as games that test their comprehension skills. On Day 3, there were fewer students, but that didnโt stop us from teaching. Even if only ten remain, we will continue this and give our best to help them improve. Seeing their improvement and excitement makes each session much more worthwhile!
There are two more days to goโlet's keep the momentum!

Day 2 out of 5 - The Adventure Begins!
Another Saturday, another wonderful day for the Grade 6 students at Libjo Elementary School! Today, we went deeper into reading comprehension, assisting students in discovering new ways to grasp and enjoy discussions.
And one more thingโon Day 2, they were even more energetic and lively! Plus, we had a new student join us who wasnโt there on the first day. Just like on Day 1, we prepared food, and this time, it was freshly cooked. It's fantastic to observe how their confidence grows as they participate in lessons and take on activities with passion. We always give them plenty of free time to prepare for the upcoming lessons, activities, and, of course, games. Every moment, from entertaining exercises to meaningful talks, brings them closer to making reading a habit they enjoy rather than a skill.
We can't wait for what comes nextโonly three more days!

"Day 1 out of 5โBridging the Literacy Gap: Building Comprehension and a Love of Reading at Libjo Elementary School officially opens!
As we student teachers entered the classroom, we could sense the excitement and passion of the Grade 6 students, but once we got going, their excitement, curiosity, and desire to learn made it even more fascinating! On Day 1, we started by distributing materials to all the students who attended. Inside each set were a pencil, sharpener, eraser, and notebook. Everyone received their materials, and we could see the happiness on their faces. Aside from that, each student-teacher also introduced themselves in front of the class. At first, there was a bit of shyness from both sides, but we happily got through the day. We introduced them to lessons and activities that will help students become more proficient readers while also making the process fun. We also prepared their food for recess and lunch. Our NSTP-LTS instructor, Maโam Nhellie, also visited to observe us. Everything was set, and we completed Day 1 with smiles on our faces.
We are excited to see how they progress over the next several weeks, so stay tuned as we go on this journey one story, lesson, and exciting session at a time.
Four more days remain!
