𝗗𝗿. 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸 𝗝𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗽𝗵 𝗗. 𝗣𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿, 𝘾𝙝𝙞𝙚𝙛 𝙤𝙛 𝙄𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙜𝙧𝙖𝙢𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝙈𝙖𝙧𝙞𝙖𝙣𝙤 𝙈𝙖𝙧𝙘𝙤𝙨 𝙎𝙩𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝙐𝙣𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙞𝙩𝙮, served as a 𝙍𝙚𝙨𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙘𝙚 𝙎𝙥𝙚𝙖𝙠𝙚𝙧 during the 𝗛𝘆𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗱 𝗔𝗰𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁 2026 of 𝗝𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗥𝗶𝘇𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 (JRMSU), held on 𝗔𝘂𝗴𝘂𝘀𝘁 19–20, 2026 at the JRMSU Main Campus in Zamboanga del Norte.

With the theme “𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: 𝘙𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦, 𝘐𝘯𝘤𝘭𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘷𝘪𝘵𝘺, 𝘐𝘯𝘯𝘰𝘷𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘌𝘹𝘤𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦,” the summit brought together educators and learners across JRMSU campuses to exchange insights and perspectives on building a 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘱𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘷𝘦, 𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘭𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘷𝘦, 𝘪𝘯𝘯𝘰𝘷𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘧𝘶𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦-𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘺 𝘩𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘦𝘥𝘶𝘤𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘴𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘰𝘳.

Through his participation as a resource speaker, Dr. Pastor shared expertise and perspectives that contributed to meaningful conversations on academic leadership, internationalization, innovation, and professional development—strengthening collaboration and knowledge exchange among education stakeholders.

The engagement underscores the importance of partnerships and shared learning in advancing higher education and preparing institutions and learners to navigate an evolving educational landscape.

Securing clean water as a basic right takes both systemic advocacy and daily practice. Protecting our water supply starts with simple, actionable steps in our everyday routines: taking shorter showers, avoiding over-watering plants, and cutting down on food waste to conserve the hidden water used in production.

This World Water Week, let’s go beyond discussing global issues and actively practice resource stewardship in our own routines. Every action counts toward building a more equitable and resilient world. 🌍✨

Clean water is a right, not a privilege. Yet billions of people around the world lack access to safe drinking water and sanitation — and the climate emergency is making things worse.

We can all be part of the solution. Simple steps in our daily lives can make a huge difference: 🚿 Take shorter showers; 💦 Avoid over-watering plants; 🥘 Reduce food waste.

Every August 23, the global community gathers to honor the memory of the millions of African men, women, and children who suffered under the transatlantic slave trade—one of the darkest chapters in human history. Initiated by UNESCO, this date marks the anniversary of the 1791 uprising in Saint-Domingue (now Haiti), a historic turning point that led to the eventual abolition of the transatlantic slave trade and proved that the urge for freedom cannot be extinguished.

Remembering the horrors of enslavement is not merely an exercise in looking backward; it is a critical mandate to confront modern forms of slavery, systemic racism, and deep-seated inequality today. By examining the historical roots of exploitation and honoring the resilience of those who fought for liberation, we reinforce our global commitment to human rights, human dignity, and justice. Educating future generations and eliminating remaining structures of racial injustice directly advance Sustainable Development Goal 10 (Reduced Inequalities) and Sustainable Development Goal 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions).

May we honor the legacy of those who resisted, defend human dignity without compromise, and build a world free from all forms of oppression. 🕯️⛓️

𝙈𝙐𝙉 𝙎𝙋𝙊𝙏𝙇𝙄𝙂𝙃𝙏 | 𝙍𝙞𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝘾𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙖𝙜𝙚 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙍𝙚𝙨𝙤𝙡𝙫𝙚 🌐✨

Meet 𝗝𝗵𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗹 𝗞𝗮𝘆𝗲 𝗩𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘂𝗲𝘃𝗮, 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹 of 𝙈𝙈𝙎𝙐 𝙈𝙤𝙙𝙚𝙡 𝙐𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙉𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨, whose recent achievement offers a simple but meaningful reminder: sometimes, you just have to be brave enough to try.

Jhasel was recently selected as a delegate for the 2026 𝙃𝙋𝘼𝙄𝙍 𝘼𝙨𝙞𝙖 𝙑𝙞𝙧𝙩𝙪𝙖𝙡 𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙛𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚, organized by the 𝙃𝙖𝙧𝙫𝙖𝙧𝙙 𝘾𝙤𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙜𝙚 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙟𝙚𝙘𝙩 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝘼𝙨𝙞𝙖𝙣 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙄𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝙍𝙚𝙡𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨. Held from August 21–23, the conference carries the theme “𝗥𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘃𝗲,” bringing together young people to engage with issues surrounding leadership, resilience, technology, healthcare, and artificial intelligence.

💭 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲

Harvard has long been Jhasel’s dream school. Encouraged by an online friend from Indonesia whom she met through the 13th World Bank Group Youth Summit 2026, where she participated as an online delegate representing the Philippines, Jhasel decided to take a chance and apply.

She submitted her application on August 12, the final day of the application period. Despite not being completely certain that she would be selected, she saw the application as an opportunity to challenge herself and find out whether her voice could make its way onto an international platform.

On August 16, she received the news: she had been accepted based on her first-round application.

For Jhasel, the acceptance became more than an invitation to an international conference. It was a reminder that sometimes, other people can recognize potential in us even before we fully recognize it in ourselves.

🌱 𝗞𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘇𝗲

Yet the story does not end with acceptance.

Although Jhasel looked forward to meeting fellow delegates and learning from global voices, she ultimately decided to decline her slot this year. With the conference coinciding with her academic workload and personal responsibilities, she chose to prioritize what currently needs her attention.

Turning down an opportunity you worked hard to earn is never easy. But sometimes, leadership also means knowing when to step back.

Her decision does not make the achievement any less meaningful. If anything, it reflects another kind of courage: the wisdom to recognize that not every opportunity has to be taken immediately.

Jhasel hopes to apply again in the future when the timing is right, with the hope of eventually experiencing the opportunity in person.

🌏 𝗔 𝗠𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗙𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀

Jhasel’s story reminds us that you do not have to feel completely ready, confident, or certain that you will succeed before you try.

Submit the application. Raise your hand. Take the chance.

You might surprise yourself.

And when an opportunity does not fit the season you are in, choosing your responsibilities does not mean you were not capable of taking it. Sometimes, the timing simply is not right.

Success is not always about saying yes to every door that opens. Sometimes, it is about having the courage to knock, the wisdom to know when to walk through, and the resolve to return when the time is right.

MMSU Model United Nations joins the World Health Organization in amplifying the conversation on autism. 🌐🌎

Autism represents a diverse spectrum of human experience, yet millions worldwide still face barriers to healthcare, education, and social inclusion. True human progress demands that we protect the rights of all individuals, grounding our global policies in compassion and understanding.

By prioritizing early support and dismantling stigma, we directly advance Sustainable Development Goal 10 (Reduced Inequalities) and uphold the fundamental principles of the UN Charter—ensuring no one is left behind.

We encourage the MMSU community and beyond to learn, understand, and champion an accessible world for everyone. 💙

Autism, or autism spectrum disorder, is a diverse group of brain development conditions.

In 2021, about 1 in 127 people worldwide were estimated to be on the autism spectrum.

Signs may appear in early childhood, but many go undiagnosed for years.
Early understanding and support can make all the difference.

𝙈𝙐𝙉 𝙃𝙄𝙂𝙃𝙇𝙄𝙂𝙃𝙏𝙎 | 𝗗𝗿. 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸 𝗝𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗽𝗵 𝗣𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗶𝗻 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗦𝗘𝗔𝗡 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗔𝗜-𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 💡

Artificial intelligence is becoming an increasingly important part of education, work, and everyday life, making AI literacy an essential skill for young people preparing for a rapidly changing digital future.

This was highlighted by Dr. Mark Joseph D. Pastor, an AI Ready ASEAN Master Trainer, Chief of International Programs, and Co-Adviser of the MMSU Model United Nations, during the ASEAN FUTURES: Empowering Youth for an AI-Ready and Connected Southeast Asia webinar held on August 20, 2026, via Facebook Live.

Dr. Pastor discussed “AI-Ready ASEAN Youth: Learning, Creating, and Thriving with Artificial Intelligence,” highlighting AI’s growing role in education, creativity, communication, and daily life. He emphasized that AI readiness goes beyond knowing how to use AI tools—it also means learning to adapt and use technology responsibly and ethically. He also introduced AI Class ASEAN, a free regional learning platform covering AI fundamentals, applications, ethics, data privacy, and misinformation.

The webinar also featured Dr. Ret. Nat. Dian Sari Utami, Director of the Office of International Affairs of Universitas Islam Indonesia, who shared a regional perspective on ASEAN youth and the importance of strengthening connections within the Southeast Asian community.

Through the activity, students were encouraged to see AI readiness as part of their role in shaping a more connected and innovative ASEAN. With the right knowledge and skills, ASEAN youth can actively navigate technological change and create opportunities for the region’s future.

The initiative supports SDG 4: Quality Education through digital and AI skills, SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth through future-ready competencies, SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure through technological literacy and innovation.

Every August 22, the global community pauses to honor the lives, memory, and profound resilience of individuals and communities targeted simply for what they believe or how they worship. Established by the UN General Assembly in 2019, this solemn day calls on all of us to stand in deep solidarity with survivors and families whose lives have been fractured by religious intolerance and faith-based violence.

Faith, belief, and conscience are intimate human experiences. True peace requires protecting not only our freedom of belief, but also our shared rights to speak, gather, and live without fear—core principles enshrined in Articles 18, 19, and 20 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. When we nurture open, compassionate, and respectful dialogue across different cultures and faiths, we break down the walls of hatred and heal divisions. Protecting every individual's sacred right to exist peacefully is essential to fulfilling Sustainable Development Goal 10 (Reduced Inequalities) and Sustainable Development Goal 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions).
May we continue to champion empathy, bridge differences through understanding, and build a world where no person faces fear or violence for their beliefs. 🕯️🕊️
