𝗜𝗡 𝗣𝗛𝗢𝗧𝗢𝗦 | Young Communicators John Lynell Diaros and Mica Agbayani graced the runway at the CASeyahan Fashion Show held at the CAS Lobby on August 13, securing 1st Runner‑Up and 2nd Runner‑Up honors, respectively.

𝘣𝘺 𝘑𝘢𝘺 𝘈𝘯𝘯𝘦 𝘓𝘦𝘪 𝘗𝘢𝘴𝘤𝘶𝘢

The Young Communicators’ Circle (Y2C) showcased cultural pride and creative flair through its representatives at CASEyahAN: Asean Fashion Show, held at the CAS Lobby on August 13.

Aligned with the 59th founding anniversary of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the event was led by the CAS Student Council, aimed to highlight the rich traditions and heritage of Southeast Asian nations.

Y2C was represented by first‑year student John Lynell P. Diaros and second‑year student Mica Angela D. Agbayani.

Staying true to the theme, both wore Philippine‑inspired designs with modern touches, walking the runway with elegance and national pride to bring Filipino culture to life through fashion.

Their standout performance earned top recognition as the Parade of Nations concluded: Diaros secured 1st Runner‑Up in the Best ASEAN Attire Male Category, while Agbayani claimed 2nd Runner‑Up in the Female Category.

“The experience was nerve‑wracking at first, being my debut event, but it turned fun and meaningful—we got to showcase ASEAN’s richness to the entire CAS and MMSU community,” Diaros shared.

Agbayani added: “This journey was one of courage, growth, and self‑discovery. I learned to embrace the stage and who I am beyond it. The recognition is special, but the memories, friendships, and confidence I gained are the true prize.”

Y2C warmly congratulates both representatives, citing their success as a vivid example of how Communication students merge creativity with cultural pride in honoring Filipino identity while embracing the diversity of the ASEAN region.

The Young Communicators' Circle (Y2C) gathered for its first General Assembly at the Student Center on August 11, laying out student involvement, strategic initiatives and organizational goals for Academic Year 2026–2027.

During the event, Mikko Fernando Castillo, the Executive Chairperson, led the discussions and encouraged student communicators across year levels to become more familiar with the organization’s plans and their responsibilities.

The new set of officers also outlined the organization's vision and presented its major activities for the academic year, including its flagship events such as Y2Cinema, Y2Con, COMMustahan, Y2FILMEXHIBIT, and other academic, media, leadership, and extension programs designed to enrich students' participation.

Aside from presenting upcoming projects, the assembly revisited the organization's Constitution and By-Laws to ensure that members understood their rights, responsibilities, and the policies that guide the organization.

Meanwhile, an open forum followed the discussions, allowing students to raise questions and share further suggestions.

Y2C advisers expressed their support for the organization, encouraging students to maximize the opportunities and experiences offered by the organization.

With a new academic year underway, Y2C’s general assembly recognized another step as it continues to bring together students who share a passion for communication, storytelling, and service.

The Young Communicators' Circle (Y2C) marks another milestone after SIRIB Express released the official list of winners on July 10, with the awarding ceremony held at the Ilocos Norte Centennial Arena, August 11.

Mr. Jhon Sherwin S. Duran, CAS Student Council Adviser, Communication faculty, and Y2C alumnus, stood out as the Most Outstanding UNESCO Cultural Worker among this year’s honorees.

Y2C students added another milestone to the organization’s record, securing Gold Award for their film entry in an international competition.

The awardees are Joseph "Dodong" Ansino, Athena Lorraine Sagsagat, Jacob Christian Luis, Adrian Camado, KC Esmaya, and Krizzia Mae Bola.

Meanwhile, Janssen Vonn Gomez, Chloey Mariyah Madarang, and Marianne Barba received Silver Awards for their creative entries in the Reels Competition.

Y2C congratulates all awardees for their remarkable accomplishments, whose achievements will surely inspire the organization and the entire MMSU community.

𝘣𝘺 𝘑𝘻𝘺𝘭𝘢 𝘑𝘦𝘮𝘢𝘪𝘮𝘢 𝘈𝘴𝘪𝘴

Two films from the Bachelor of Arts in Communication program, crafted by students, alumni and faculty, have been selected as finalists in the 13th Nabunturan Independent Film Exhibition (NABIFILMEX), set to run September 16 to 18 in Nabunturan, Davao de Oro.

The official lineup features Baga baga, directed by sophomore Communication student Mark Jerome Orque, and Magindara, helmed by program alumnus and Department of Communication faculty member Mr. Ryand Ugalde.

Baga baga follows Kiko, a young man haunted by his father’s disappearance in the forest and inspired by Orque’s uncle, that reflects deeper realities of their community.

The production team consists mainly of Communication students: Zechri Jacob L. Alvarez, Matthew Cabie, Marco Jae Prieto, Princess Diane J. Labrador, Erica Mikaela Panaligan, Keneth Padaca, John Aldrich Domingo, Trisha Leigh Constantino, and Jeremy Ruiz.

The film previously earned 2nd Best Picture and Best Actor at the 2025 Ilocos Norte Short Horror Film Festival, and was named a finalist at the 2026 Sinag Maynila Independent Film Festival.

Meanwhile, Magindara, directed by Mr. Ryand Ugalde, features a production team composed of Communication graduates including Janna Butay, Gian Paul Pascua, John Bryan dela Cruz, Kim Angel Butay, and Jirah Dean Failano.

The film swept six major awards at the 2025 Ilocos Norte Short Horror Film Festival: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography, and Best Sound Effects.

It later received Best Screenplay and the Jury Prize at CineKasimanwa: The Western Visayas Film Festival 2025, and also earned finalist status at Sinag Maynila 2026.

“I’m proud that Ilokano cinema is slowly reaching wider audiences and competing on a national level; it feels good to know our stories and voices are gradually being heard,” Orque emphasized.

Beyond recognition, Orque hopes NABIFILMEX amplifies stories often overlooked: “For me, it is more than a film, it is a tribute, a reflection of our community, and a call to listen to voices that deserve to be heard.”

As both films head to NABIFILMEX, they carry not only the achievements of their creators but also the richness of Ilokano storytelling to a broader stage.

In line with the recent academic reorganization conducted on July 28, twenty-one newly elected officers of the Young Communicators' Circle (Y2C) took their oath at the CAS Lobby on August 3.

Among those who formally assumed office was Mikko Fernando A. Castillo III, a fourth-year Bachelor of Arts in Communication student, elected as the organization's Executive Chairperson.

As he begin his term, he shared his vision for the organization to cultivate an environment where Communication students can fully realize their potential.

"My vision for Y2C is to make it an organization where every member has the opportunity to utilize their full potential and showcase how flexible and capable Communication students can be in different fields, disciplines, and situations," he emphasized.

He added that while he already has several initiatives in mind, he believes the organization's direction should be shaped through collaboration, allowing members to actively contribute ideas that will strengthen Y2C and provide meaningful opportunities for growth.

Although leadership has always been a part of his journey, he admitted that assuming the organization's highest position was not something he initially expected.

"More than seeing this as a title or an achievement, I see it as a responsibility entrusted to me through the trust and affirmation of my fellow members in the organization," he noted.

With the new set of officers officially sworn into office, he expressed his commitment to leading Y2C with service, collaboration, and the welfare of its members at the forefront of his leadership.

The oath-taking ceremony marks a promising beginning for the organization, as the new set of officers commits to inclusive leadership and collective growth for all Communication students under their care.

Sa pagdiriwang ng Buwan ng Wika 2026, binibigyang pugay ng Young Communicators' Circle ang wikang Filipino bilang mahalagang bahagi ng pagkakakilanlan, kultura, at pag-unlad ng bansa.

Sa buong buwan ng Agosto, nagkakaisa ang mga mag-aaral, g**o, at kawani sa iba't ibang gawaing nagtatampok sa yaman ng wikang Filipino habang isinusulong ang pagpapahalaga sa magkakaibang pamanang pangwika ng Pilipinas.

Ang pagdiriwang ngayong taon ay nagsisilbing paalala na ang wika ay higit pa sa isang kasangkapan sa komunikasyon, ito ay salamin ng kasaysayan, mga pagpapahalaga, at magkakabahaging karanasan ng sambayanan.

Sa ating temang “Wikang Filipino at AI: Kasangkapan sa Pananaliksik at Tulay sa Yaman ng Impormasyon,” ipinapaalala sa atin na bagama’t patuloy na umuunlad ang teknolohiya, nananatiling mahalaga ang Wikang Filipino bilang puso ng ating pagkakakilanlan at kultura.

Celebrating Original Pilipino Music (OPM) through musical performances, sophomore Bachelor of Arts in Communication student Jaye Marynette Sophine L. Reyes bagged second place in the CASraoke: Jam Sesh held at the CAS Lobby on July 30.

Representing the program, Reyes performed Aegis' Sayang na Sayang, earning the second spot in the competition.

In an interview, Reyes shared that she prepared for the competition by repeatedly listening to her chosen song and attending practice sessions before the event.

Reflecting on her participation, Reyes highlighted the role of OPM in showcasing Filipino talent and fostering connections through music.

"It made me realize that OPM music brings out so many Filipino capabilities. The songs are wholeheartedly made, and they bring us all together more than any Western music could," she emphasized.

CASraoke: Jam Sesh proves how music, as a powerful form of communication, unites students across the college while honoring Filipino musical heritage and building lasting camaraderie.
