Following the retraction of our previous publication due to concerns raised by the community, the College of Engineering Student Council is issuing this statement to address the matter.
As future engineers and technocrats, our training demands precision, rigorous analysis of structural integrity, and an uncompromising commitment to public safety and human welfare. Just as a structure built on a compromised foundation is bound to collapse, a society that ignores the structural flaws, systemic corruption, and historic abuses of its past invites its own ruin.
We stand without hesitation for human rights, systemic accountability, uncompromising justice, and democratic governance. These are non-negotiable principles that do not bend to political convenience, historical revisionism, or the transient tides of those who hold power.
We recognize the Martial Law era and the Marcos regime not merely as a differing political period, but as a dark chapter defined by state-sanctioned plunder, widespread human rights violations, and institutional decay.
To engineer a progressive future, we flatly refuse the sanitization of tyranny and reject any form of passive commemoration that glosses over state terror, because historical awareness without moral clarity is mere complicity. Technology and infrastructure lose their fundamental purpose if they serve only to oppress, distract, or enrich the powerful at the expense of the marginalized, proving that technological progress is entirely meaningless without human dignity and civil liberties at its core. Power without checks and balances is a severe systemic hazard, which is why we condemn all forms of abuse of authority, censorship, and historical distortion while demanding complete transparency and absolute liability from all levels of governance.
Remembering history is an active resistance against tyranny, and we do not study the past merely to recall dates, but to dismantle the systems that allowed atrocities to happen in the first place. We challenge our fellow students to look beyond equations and technical designs, recognizing that true engineering excellence requires deep social consciousness and a commitment to building a society where the rule of law holds firm against wrongdoings. Human rights must be treated as absolute structural load-bearing walls that can never be compromised under any administration.
The College of Engineering Student Council will not step back, sanitize our language, or mince words when it comes to defending the public interest and holding the powerful accountable.
Never again to injustice. Never again to the violation of human rights.
