๐ข๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐ฆ๐ง๐๐ง๐๐ ๐๐ก๐ง | ON THE NEW FORMAT OF THE 2026 UNIGAMES
The University Pre-Games were designed to finish select competitions ahead of the UniGames proper, so regular academic activities face fewer disruptions, and fewer games need to be squeezed into the three-day main event (September 29โ30 and October 1). Under this scheme, court volleyball, 5v5 basketball, badminton, and pickleball are played from 5:00 to 7:30 PM, August 17โ25 and September 7โ25.
This format was discussed and favorably endorsed by the Administrative Executive Committee, composed of all college deans and academic directors, including the heads of HMAIC and OSAS. It was likewise presented to, and agreed upon by, the Chief for Sports Development, the college sports coordinators, student council representatives, and the Student Regent.
Once implementation began, however, student representatives raised real concerns: transportation, fatigue, safety, conflicts with other academic activities, and missed classes among student-athletes and other participants.
We take these concerns seriously. They are valid and give us the kind of feedback we need to improve how the Games are run. No new system works perfectly on the first try, and this one is no exception.
With that in mind, the Organizing Body will review the format and schedule.
That said, the goal behind this scheme remains a well-planned, well-protected UniGames, where classes aren't disrupted, bad weather does the least damage possible, teams face less financial strain, and everyone gets to enjoy the games as they should be played. The Organizing Body remains committed to making sure no student-athlete, from any college, has their safety compromised in the conduct of this long-standing tradition.
Let's work together to make this happen.
Let's help the 2026 UniGames SUCCEED.
Thank you.
