The MMSU ROTC Unit successfully conducted the official deliberation for the selection of the Corps Commander and Staff from among the five (5) incoming First-Class Cadets for Calendar Year 2026–2027. The deliberation was held at the DMST Office on 291100 August 2026.

Under the supervision of LTC PEDRO A DACANAY JR (INF) PA, Director, 101CDC, and the leadership and guidance of LTC MELITON C AGPAOA SC PA (RES), Commandant, together with the Training Staff, the MMSU ROTC Unit remains committed to developing cadets who embody honor, leadership, discipline, and commitment.

To ensure fairness, objectivity, and integrity throughout the selection process, the deliberation was spearheaded by COL CEASAR MARLON M YADAO PA (RET), Assistant Commandant, together with the Training Staff and the outgoing Corps Commander. The board comprehensively assessed the First-Class Cadet Officers based on their leadership potential, academic standing, military proficiency, discipline, and overall performance.

The deliberation process aims to ensure that the selected cadet officers possess the competence, discipline, and dedication necessary to strengthen the Unit’s leadership foundation, uphold its standards of excellence, and effectively lead the Cadet Corps for CY 2026–2027.

The Cadet Officers of the Mariano Marcos State University ROTC Unit participated in the Mobile Blood Donation Drive held at the Christ the Chief Cornerstone Christian Church, City of Batac, Ilocos Norte, on 29 August 2026. Organized in partnership with the Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital and Medical Center (MMMH&MC) under the National Voluntary Blood Services Program, the activity highlighted the importance of humanitarian service, community involvement, and health awareness through voluntary blood donation.

The MMSU ROTC Unit extends its sincere appreciation to LTC MELITON C AGPAOA SC PA (RES), Commandant of the MMSU ROTC Unit, for his unwavering support and for providing the Cadet Officers with the opportunity to take part in this life-saving community program. The successful participation of the cadets was made possible through his leadership and the guidance of the MMSU ROTC Training Staff.

The activity concluded successfully, reinforcing the ROTC core values of service, compassion, and civic responsibility by contributing vital blood supplies to save lives within the community.

Despite the rainy weather caused by the Southwest Monsoon, the MMSU ROTC Unit cadets honorably carried and raised the flags during the flag-raising ceremony at the MMSU Twin Gate on 24 August 2026, officially launching the university's 500-day countdown to its golden foundation anniversary. This historic countdown marks a major milestone for MMSU, celebrating nearly 50 years of academic excellence and growth that have shaped the institution's legacy. The event unites the entire campus, encouraging students and staff to build on its legacy of excellence and drive MMSU toward its long-term goal of becoming a premier university in Southeast Asia.

The cadets demonstrated exceptional discipline and teamwork, executing their duties with high professionalism despite the challenging weather conditions. Their sharp actions and strong presence significantly strengthened the formal atmosphere, adding a deep sense of pride and respect to the event.

This accomplishment reflects the unwavering mentorship and strong leadership of Commandant LTC MELITON C AGPAOA SC PA (RES), alongside the MMSU ROTC training staff. Through their steady guidance, the unit ensures that these young cadets remain highly capable and always prepared to support university activities while showing true leadership, service, and excellence.

The 𝐌𝐌𝐒𝐔 𝐑𝐎𝐓𝐂 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐭 is honored and grateful to have participated in the 𝟏𝟎𝐭𝐡 𝐑𝐄𝐒𝐂𝐎𝐌, 𝐏𝐀-𝐖𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐁𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐃𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐲, conducted in connection with the 𝟒𝟑𝐫𝐝 𝐑𝐄𝐒𝐂𝐎𝐌, 𝐏𝐀 𝐅𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐀𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐚𝐫𝐲 and held at the Gymnasium of Data Center College of the Philippines (DCCP), Laoag City, Ilocos Norte.

With the support and guidance of 𝐋𝐓𝐂 𝐌𝐄𝐋𝐈𝐓𝐎𝐍 𝐂 𝐀𝐆𝐏𝐀𝐎𝐀 𝐒𝐂 𝐏𝐀 (𝐑𝐄𝐒), Commandant of the MMSU ROTC Unit, our Advance ROTC Officers were given the opportunity to take part in this meaningful humanitarian activity. Their participation reflects the Unit’s commitment to the values of service, volunteerism, compassion, and responsibility to the community.

The activity, bearing the theme “𝐀𝐍𝐆 𝐈𝐍𝐘𝐎𝐍𝐆 𝐌𝐀𝐓𝐀𝐓𝐀𝐆 𝐍𝐀 𝐓𝐀𝐆𝐀𝐏𝐀𝐆-𝐁𝐔𝐎 𝐍𝐆 𝐋𝐀𝐀𝐍𝐆 𝐊𝐀𝐖𝐀𝐋,” brought together reservists, ROTC cadets, CWTS and LTS trainees, and civilian volunteers in support of a common cause; to help provide blood for patients in need.

For the MMSU ROTC Unit, participation in this initiative goes beyond fulfilling a duty. It is an opportunity for our Advance ROTC Officers to put the spirit of “service before self” into action. Through their involvement, they were reminded that even a simple act of giving can make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

At just 22 years old, Pvt Giovanni B Corpuz PA (Res) leads a life that would overwhelm most. Balancing his studies as a Bachelor of Science in Forestry student at Mariano Marcos State University, he doubles as a rising digital content creator, a vendor, and an Advance ROTC Officer. Behind this relentless grind lies a deeply rooted story of perseverance, discipline, and unwavering faith.

Every great mission begins with an undeniable purpose—one forged not in comfort, but in the quiet endurance of love.

Witnessing his mother's tireless sacrifices ignited his drive to step up. Determined to ease the financial weight on her shoulders, he chose to forge his own path. “Ti nang-motivate kanyak nga ag-start ti business ket ni mama kase makitak nga uray kasanu ti rigat na ket haan nak sinukuan, kaya napan ti panunut ko a kaylangak ti agkaroon iti pagkakitaan tapno matulungak ni mama.”

What began as casual video clips quickly transformed into a raw, unfiltered window into his daily reality. Choosing vulnerability over vanity, he turned his personal struggles into a beacon of hope for an entire generation of working students. “Dati trip-trip lang ti pinag-content ko until napan jay panunut ko a why not tuy reality ti biag ko ti i-content ko to inspire other students like me nga pada a marigrigat lang pero addaan ti napintas a arapaap.”

Running a business alongside heavy academics and content creation demands a warrior’s structure. The Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) became a foundation for the discipline and patience he applies in managing his responsibilities as a student, vendor, and content creator. “ROTC ket nakatulong kanyak ti pinag-business ko kase dagitay discipline a nasursurok ket mai-apply ko ti pinag-business ko especially in time management. First is patience, dakkel naytulong kanyak iti experience ko iti ROTC tapno ma-build ko iti a**s uray kasano iti rigat.”

Military training was never just about marching on drill grounds or enduring the relentless heat. It became an experience that shaped his character and resilience, teaching him to remain disciplined, patient, and determined even when faced with pressure and hardship. These lessons continue to guide him as he balances his studies, vending, content creation, and responsibilities as an ROTC officer.

The experience embedded an unwavering resilience, granting him the grit to balance full-time production with full-time discipline—a mindset built to thrive under pressure.

MMSU ROTC cadets rendered the Entrance of Colors during the Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines (CEAP) Region 1 and Abra Annual Assembly at Teatro Ilocandia, held on 01 August 2026. During the ceremony, the cadets also proudly carried the official flags representing the various participating Catholic academic institutions. The opening marked the start of the gathering where school administrators and educators strengthens their joint mission to improve Catholic education through active partnership and innovative service.

The cadets showed great teamwork and discipline, carrying out their duties perfectly and professionally. Their participation contributed to the formal and prestigious atmosphere of the event.

This accomplishment reflects the continuous mentorship and leadership of Commandant LTC MELITON C AGPAOA SC PA (RES) and the MMSU ROTC training staff. Their guidance ensures the cadets remain prepared to support university activities as they demonstrate leadership, service, and excellence.

The Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) ROTC Unit extends its sincerest gratitude to BGEN ALLAN JOSE L TAGUBA PA, Commander of the 701st Brigade, 7th Infantry Division, Philippine Army, and LTC PEDRO A DACANAY JR (INF) PA, Director of the 101st Community Defense Center, for the opportunity given to the Advance ROTC Officers to participate in this significant leadership engagement on 27 July 2026.

With the support and guidance of LTC MELITON C AGPAOA SC PA (RES), Commandant of the MMSU ROTC Unit, our Cadet Officers were able to attend the activity, where they gained valuable knowledge and a deeper understanding of the current security landscape of our nation, the vital role of the Reserve Force, and the responsibilities of future military leaders. The inspiring Talk to Troops and the Pinning of Ranks Ceremony further strengthened their commitment to leadership, patriotism, and selfless service.

The MMSU ROTC Unit is truly grateful for this invaluable learning experience, which has inspired the cadets to continuously uphold the Philippine Army's core values of Honor, Patriotism, and Duty as they strive to become disciplined, competent, and mission-ready citizen-soldiers in service to God, Country, and People.
