An Orange Warning indicates that flooding and landslides are threatening in vulnerable areas. Residents are advised to remain alert, especially those living near rivers, waterways, steep slopes, and other hazard-prone locations.

Moderate to strong southwesterly winds are expected over the province, while rough coastal waters may prevail. Mariners and small sea vessels are advised to exercise caution and monitor the latest marine weather advisories.

Rainy conditions associated with the Southwest Monsoon are expected to continue, with temperatures ranging from approximately 24°C to 28°C over Ilocos Norte.

Tropical Depression PILANDOK maintains its strength as it continues to meander over the Philippine Sea, east of Extreme Northern Luzon.

🌀 𝗖𝗨𝗥𝗥𝗘𝗡𝗧 𝗦𝗜𝗧𝗨𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡
As of 10:00 AM today, the center of PILANDOK was estimated at 1,160 km east of Extreme Northern Luzon (21.1°N, 133.1°E).

The tropical depression has maximum sustained winds of 55 km/h near the center, with gustiness of up to 70 km/h and a central pressure of 1000 hPa. It is currently moving almost stationary, with strong winds extending outward up to 450 km from the center.

No Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) is currently hoisted.

🌧️ 𝗦𝗢𝗨𝗧𝗛𝗪𝗘𝗦𝗧 𝗠𝗢𝗡𝗦𝗢𝗢𝗡 (𝗛𝗔𝗕𝗔𝗚𝗔𝗧)
While PILANDOK remains far from the Philippine landmass, the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) continues to affect the country.

The Habagat is expected to bring strong to gale-force gusts over most of the country today, with strong to gale-force winds continuing over most of Luzon and Visayas and several areas of Mindanao through 01–02 September.

⚠️ 𝗣𝗢𝗧𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗜𝗔𝗟 𝗜𝗠𝗣𝗔𝗖𝗧𝗦

Heavy rainfall associated with the Southwest Monsoon may continue over affected areas. Residents in flood- and landslide-prone areas are advised to remain vigilant and monitor rainfall warnings and advisories issued by PAGASA Regional Services Divisions.

🌊 𝗪𝗜𝗡𝗗 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗦𝗘𝗔 𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗗𝗜𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗦

Very rough seas of up to 4.5 meters are expected along the western seaboard of the Babuyan Islands, making sea travel risky for all types of vessels.

Rough seas of up to 4.0 meters are also expected along the seaboards of Batanes, Ilocos Norte, northern Ilocos Sur, and the northern seaboard of the Babuyan Islands. Mariners of small seacraft, including motorbancas, are advised not to venture out to sea under these conditions.

📍 𝗧𝗥𝗔𝗖𝗞 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗜𝗡𝗧𝗘𝗡𝗦𝗜𝗧𝗬 𝗢𝗨𝗧𝗟𝗢𝗢𝗞

PILANDOK is forecast to move generally northwestward slowly to almost stationary for the next 36 hours, before moving generally north-northwestward thereafter.

The system is forecast to intensify into a tropical storm by tomorrow, 01 September, before weakening into a tropical depression by Wednesday. It is forecast to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by Wednesday afternoon or evening, 02 September.

PAGASA emphasizes that the forecast track remains highly uncertain and may change in succeeding bulletins. PILANDOK is less likely to make landfall and is expected to remain far from the Philippine landmass.

Here’s a look back at the Meteorological Masterclass: June–July–August Season, a meaningful series of learning sessions organized by the Philippine Meteorological Society (PMS) in collaboration with the University of the Philippines – Institute of Environmental Science and Meteorology (UP-IESM).

Throughout the season, meteorology students, enthusiasts, and members of the scientific community were given the opportunity to learn from experts in the field and gain deeper perspectives on the processes and weather systems that shape our atmosphere. From tropical weather phenomena to the complexities of atmospheric dynamics, every session served as an avenue for expanding knowledge, exchanging ideas, and appreciating the science behind the weather we experience every day. 🌏🌤️

More than just a series of lectures, the masterclass fostered a space for curiosity, collaboration, and continuous learning—reminding us that becoming better scientists begins with the willingness to keep asking questions and understanding the atmosphere beyond what meets the eye.

As we close the June–July–August Season, we look back on the discussions, insights, experiences, and connections that made this masterclass a memorable learning journey. Each session brought us one step closer to becoming more knowledgeable, capable, and passionate future meteorologists. 💙

Typhoon SAUDEL has entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) and was assigned the local name OBET at 1:20 PM today.

PAGASA has begun issuing regular Tropical Cyclone Bulletins for the typhoon.

🌀 𝗖𝗨𝗥𝗥𝗘𝗡𝗧 𝗦𝗜𝗧𝗨𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡
As of the latest PAGASA assessment, OBET remains over the Philippine Sea, far east-northeast of Extreme Northern Luzon. The typhoon is moving west-northwestward at around 30 km/h, while maintaining typhoon-force winds near its center.

Although OBET has entered PAR, the system is not expected to make landfall over the Philippine landmass and is forecast to remain over the Philippine Sea as it moves toward the western boundary of PAR.

🌧️ 𝗦𝗢𝗨𝗧𝗛𝗪𝗘𝗦𝗧 𝗠𝗢𝗡𝗦𝗢𝗢𝗡 (𝗛𝗔𝗕𝗔𝗚𝗔𝗧)
The presence of OBET continues to enhance the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat, bringing rains over portions of Luzon.

Cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms may persist over the western sections of Luzon, with moderate to at times heavy rainfall possible in some areas.

⚠️ 𝗣𝗢𝗧𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗜𝗔𝗟 𝗜𝗠𝗣𝗔𝗖𝗧𝗦
While OBET remains far from the Philippine landmass, its interaction with the Southwest Monsoon may contribute to enhanced rainfall over western Luzon.

Residents in flood- and landslide-prone areas are advised to remain vigilant, especially during periods of persistent or heavy rainfall. Continue monitoring official rainfall warnings and local advisories.

🌬️ 𝗪𝗜𝗡𝗗 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗦𝗘𝗔 𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗗𝗜𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗦
Strong winds and rough seas may be experienced over portions of the Philippine Sea, particularly in areas closer to the typhoon's circulation. Mariners and fishing communities are advised to exercise caution and monitor the latest marine and tropical cyclone advisories from PAGASA.

OBET is forecast to continue moving west-northwestward over the Philippine Sea. PAGASA expects the typhoon to remain generally away from the Philippine landmass and to exit PAR by tonight or early tomorrow, although its circulation may continue to influence the Southwest Monsoon.

Even though OBET is not expected to directly affect land, its potential influence on the Southwest Monsoon and rainfall over Luzon warrants continued monitoring.
