Ms. Ruth Anne T. Ruelos, faculty member of the Department of Development Communication (DDC), recently represented the department in the University’s benchmarking activity at the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB).

The benchmarking visit provided an opportunity to gain valuable insights into radio and television broadcasting operations, management practices, and institutional best practices. The engagement also allowed participating faculty members to learn from UPLB’s experiences and explore practices that may contribute to the continuous improvement of the department’s programs and services.

Through its active participation in university-wide initiatives, DDC continues to strengthen its practices, embrace innovation, and enhance its capacity to provide quality education and services to students.

For four decades, MMSU has offered BS Development Communication – the only one in Ilocos Norte and one of only 42 tertiary schools in the Philippines. Through the years, the program has remained steadfast in advancing the discipline and in producing communicators who inform, educate, and empower communities. Its enduring presence is more than a milestone; it’s a testament to a legacy of transforming lives through communication.

As we celebrate its 40th founding anniversary, we honor the faculty, students, alumni, and stakeholders whose dedication has shaped and sustained this remarkable legacy.

Happy 40th Anniversary, BS DEVCOM at MMSU!

A senior Bachelor of Science in Development Communication (DevCom) student from Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) has earned a Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) certificate.

Jaslen Domingo completed the 120-hour TEFL course through the Teacher Record, a global job board and career platform specializing in English as a Second Language (ESL) education.

Operated by the Shenzhen Federated Database Education Technology Co., Ltd. based in China, Teacher Record has 16 years of experience in the ESL staffing industry and is recognized as one of the world’s largest TEFL certificate providers.

With the certification, Domingo is now eligible to teach English to non-native speakers through ESL platforms affiliated with Teacher Record.

The course consisted of modular sessions covering six topics, along with examinations and a teaching demonstration. Participants are awarded certificates after passing all modules and the final assessment.

Domingo said she discovered the program on LinkedIn while searching for remote learning opportunities that would complement her studies.

“I plan to use this credential for future part-time online teaching while balancing it with my subjects,” she said.

She added that the certification marks an important step in enhancing her communication skills and supporting her long-term goal of pursuing a law degree.

Domingo is a consistent academic achiever and she currently served as a Media Committee member of DevComSoc.
