The Mariano Marcos State University College of Medicine (MMSU-COM) continues to strengthen its research and international academic presence through the scholarly work of its faculty.

Among the College's notable research outputs is the work of Dr. Janill I. Magano, MD, MHPEd, Affiliate Faculty and former Chair of the Medical Education Unit, whose research study has been accepted for oral presentation at the Annual Asia Pacific Medical Education Conference (APMEC) to be held on January 13-16, 2027, in Kyoto, Japan.

His study explores Filipino physicians’ migration motivations,, highlighting the College’s growing contribution to medical education research and international scholarly discourse.

Four faculty members from the Department of Physiology of the Mariano Marcos State University College of Medicine (MMSU-COM) formally took their oath as members of the 𝑷𝒉𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒑𝒑𝒊𝒏𝒆 𝑺𝒐𝒄𝒊𝒆𝒕𝒚 𝒐𝒇 𝑷𝒉𝒚𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒍𝒐𝒈𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒔, 𝑰𝒏𝒄. (𝑷𝑺𝑷) during the Society's annual gathering held at the Davao Medical School Foundation.

The newly inducted members were 𝗗𝗿. 𝗜𝗻𝗮 𝗞𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮 𝗦. 𝗜𝗿𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗮, chair of the Department of Physiology , 𝗗𝗿. 𝗔𝗶𝗿𝗮 𝗖𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗿𝗮 𝗖𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼-𝗔𝗴𝗿𝗮, 𝗗𝗿. 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘆 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗼, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗗𝗿. 𝗥𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗲 𝗕𝗼𝗰𝗼𝗯𝗼𝗰-𝗥𝗮𝗺𝗼𝘀.

The Philippine Society of Physiologists, Inc. is the country's premier professional organization dedicated to the advancement of physiology education, research, and professional development. As an affiliate of the 𝑰𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒏𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒂𝒍 𝑼𝒏𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒐𝒇 𝑷𝒉𝒚𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒍𝒐𝒈𝒊𝒄𝒂𝒍 𝑺𝒄𝒊𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆𝒔 (𝑰𝑼𝑷𝑺),, the global federation of physiological societies, PSP serves as a vital link between Filipino physiologists and the international scientific community, promoting collaboration, scholarly exchange, and the dissemination of best practices in physiology education and research.

The induction of four MMSU-COM faculty members into the Society reflects the College's commitment to academic excellence, continuous professional development, and active participation in national and international professional networks. Through their membership, the faculty gain opportunities to engage with fellow physiologists, contribute to scholarly initiatives, and remain abreast of developments in the physiological sciences.

During the Society's Annual Business Meeting, Mariano Marcos State University College of Medicine was likewise recognized by the society's president 𝗗𝗿. 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸 𝗟𝗼𝘂𝗶𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗻 for its successful collaboration with the PSP in organizing the online physiology webinar entitled “𝑭𝒓𝒐𝒎 𝑷𝒂𝒕𝒉𝒘𝒂𝒚𝒔 𝒕𝒐 𝑷𝒓𝒂𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒄𝒆: 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑷𝒉𝒚𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒍𝒐𝒈𝒚 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑪𝒍𝒊𝒏𝒊𝒄𝒂𝒍 𝑴𝒂𝒏𝒂𝒈𝒆𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒐𝒇 𝑷𝒂𝒊𝒏.”

The webinar, organized through the efforts of the MMSU-COM Department of Physiology in partnership with the PSP, featured 𝗗𝗿. 𝗥𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗙. 𝗟𝗼𝗽𝗲𝘇, an anesthesiology consultant and international fellow in Clinical Pain Management, as resource speaker. The activity drew more than 90 participants from various institutions nationwide and received positive feedback from attendees and Society members alike.

Among the webinar's notable strengths was its emphasis on the clinical correlation of physiological concepts, enabling participants to appreciate the direct application of fundamental physiology principles in the assessment and management of pain. The Society commended the activity for its relevance, quality of discussions, and contribution to strengthening the integration of basic sciences and clinical practice.

The recognition received during the Annual Business Meeting highlights MMSU-COM's growing contribution to physiology education and its commitment to fostering meaningful collaborations that enrich medical learning. Through initiatives such as these, the College continues to strengthen its role in advancing medical education, promoting professional development among faculty, and cultivating future physicians grounded in both scientific understanding and clinical excellence.

The Mariano Marcos State University – College of Medicine invites qualified incoming medical students to apply for the Medical Scholarship and Return Service (MSRS) Program for the First Semester of Academic Year 2026–2027.

The MSRS Program, established under Republic Act No. 11509, provides comprehensive support to deserving medical students and aims to strengthen the country's healthcare workforce through return service in underserved communities.

Scholarship Benefits

✅ Free tuition and other school fees
✅ Learning materials and medical supplies allowance
✅ Internship and review support
✅ Monthly living allowance
✅ Other benefits as provided under the program

Who May Apply?

Priority shall be given to:
• Economically disadvantaged but deserving students
• Residents of geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDAs)
• Members of Indigenous Cultural Communities/Indigenous Peoples (ICCs/IPs)
• Children of Community Health Volunteers
• Dependents of barangay health workers and other qualified applicants under the MSRS guidelines
