Barlig National High School Participates in the National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill

Barlig National High School joins the entire nation in the conduct of the National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) today at exactly 10:00 AM. A total of eighty-six (86) learners and eleven (11) teaching and non-teaching personnel actively participated in the drill, properly executing the "Duck, Cover, and Hold" protocol as part of the simulated earthquake response.

The activity was closely monitored and assessed by representatives PEMS Janice S. Napa & PSSG Rhea E. Nasarao from the Barlig Municipal Police Station (MPS), Nelson A. Losao-na & Sedrick Dakilay of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), and FO2 Thelma M. Dadya-as of the Bureau of Fire Protection–Barlig (BFP-Barlig). These agencies ensured that standard safety procedures were followed and provided immediate feedback for improvement.

One of the key recommendations raised during the post-assessment was the non-submission of the Family Earthquake Preparedness Homework, which is crucial in reinforcing disaster preparedness at the household level. In response, the School Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Organization (SDRRMO) agreed to facilitate the accomplishment of the said form and scheduled its submission for the following week.

Additionally, the monitoring team observed some common areas for improvement, including the need to bring out the first aid kit and fire extinguisher during the drill for quick access in case of emergencies. These observations will be addressed through a follow-up meeting and reorientation of staff and learners on proper emergency procedures.

Through this initiative, Barlig National High School reaffirms its commitment to ensuring the safety and preparedness of its school community in the face of natural disasters.

The Municipal Health Office (MHO), led by Dr. Adrian Sarmiento, conducted a Mental Health and Su***de Prevention Campaign for parents and teachers, as well as a HEADSSS survey and Anti-Smoking Campaign for students.
To ensure effective implementation, the MHO personnel were divided into three groups: The first group focused on parents and teachers, the second group catered to Grade 7 & 8 students and the third group engaged Grade 9 and 10 students.

Dr. Adrian Sarmiento led an in-depth discussion on mental health, differentiating it from mental illness. He elaborated on: Warning signs of poor mental health, types and causes of mental illness and prevention strategies
On su***de prevention, he emphasized on recognizing triggering signs, understanding su***de statistics and its impact and taking preventive actions and being su***de-alert

He reinforced the message that "Su***de is a public health problem, and it is everybody's concern." He also highlighted the advocacy slogan:
"Magsabi, Magtanong, Makinig, Maging Ligtas."

One of the most thought-provoking moments was when he asked:
"Have you ever said β€˜I love you’ to your children?"
This question stirred emotions among parents and teachers, with many admitting that they express love through actions rather than words.
Dr. Sarmiento encouraged them to verbalize their affection, emphasizing that a simple "I love you" could mean everything to a child.

Meanwhile, another group of MHO nurses and personnel conducted the HEADSSS survey among students. The results of this survey will serve as a foundation for future mental health and psychosocial support programs for learners.

Following the survey, the team also facilitated an Anti-Smoking Campaign, urging students to never engage in smoking in any form. They discussed the harmful effects of cigarette smoking and reinforced their message through real-life testimonies from former smokers, illustrating how smoking had devastated their lives.

Through these initiatives, the Municipal Health Office continues its commitment to promoting mental well-being and a healthier future for students, parents, and teachers.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

Cultural Club performs during the St. Michael's feast

Garbed in native attire, Barlig National High School Cultural Club performed earlier today at the mass during the feast of St. Michael, Gawana, Barlig, Mountain Province.

Following the mass are contested folkdance presentations by the different Basic Ecclesiastical Comunities (BEC) with each group dressed in colorful flowing Southern attire. The club's cultural intermission number that came halfway is an apt manifestation that people in this part of the North likewise possess a long renowned indigenous art of music and dance obviously disparate yet both make a smooth blend in sounds and attire.
