Before the official enshrinement of the 5th Philippine Sports Hall of Fame, here’s an introduction to the man who set a standard of excellence that has lasted for generations. 🏃‍♂️💨 🥇

Hailing from Sorsogon, Isidro del Prado is one of the most formidable sprinters in Philippine history and a formidable product of the 1980s "Gintong Alay" program. Alongside Lydia de Vega, he elevated the nation’s track and field status to an elite Asian class. Known as "Mr. 45.57," del Prado broke the Philippine 400m record seven times, eventually setting the historic mark of 45.57 seconds at the 1984 ASEAN Cup.

On the global stage, he famously reached the 400m quarterfinals at the 1984 Los Angeles Summer Olympics. Regionally, his dominance was unmatched; he was a two-time Asian Championships gold medalist and a consistent podium finisher at the Asian Games and the Southeast Asian Games across a decade of competition, including the 1981, 1983, 1987, and 1989 editions.

Following his retirement from the track, del Prado transitioned into a successful coaching career, leading the Philippine national team for years before guiding the Brunei national team starting in 2009. His legacy continues through his son, Michael Carlo del Prado, a multi-medalist athlete who follows in his father’s footsteps, ensuring the del Prado name remains a staple of Philippine sprinting excellence.

Sa pagdiriwang ng ika-128 anibersaryo ng Proklamasyon ng Kalayaan ng Pilipinas, kaisa ang Kagawaran ng Edukasyon sa pagpupugay sa katapangan at sakripisyo ng ating mga bayani na nagbukas ng landas tungo sa ating kasarinlan.

Nawa’y magsilbing inspirasyon ang kanilang pamana upang patuloy nating mahalin ang bayan, pahalagahan ang kalayaan, at magkaisa para sa mas maunlad na kinabukasan ng bansa.
