Celebrating International LGBT Pride Day is a significant time to unite in solidarity, celebrate love in all forms, and use our voices to speak up. Let us honor love, diversity, and the vibrant LGBTQIA+ community’s history, culture, and contributions to society while acknowledging the past and ongoing struggles in the fight for gay rights—human rights.

On this day in 1969, New York City police raided the Stonewall Inn, a gay club, and roughly dragged its employees and patrons outside the bar. This sparked an uprising from LGBTQIA+ protesters that lasted for six days. This had happened in an era where the society was even much more unwelcoming towards the q***r community.

The Stonewall Uprising is one of the significant events that fueled the gay rights movement in the USA and around the world. It is essential to remember that Pride is not just a celebration; it is a protest. It is a stand against discrimination, violence, and systemic inequality that LGBTQIA+ individuals continue to face globally.

Pride is a reminder of the courage and resilience of those who fought and continue to fight and advocate for a future where everyone can live authentically and freely. Let’s celebrate the progress made while recognizing that social injustice remains a reality for many of us.

This Pride Month, let’s raise our voices, wave our rainbow flags, march with pride, and amplify the voices calling for justice and equality. Together, we can create a world where love is love, and everyone is free to be their true selves.

With the recent observance of Eid al-Adha yesterday, many of our Muslim brothers and sisters were not able to observe the special holiday peacefully. Instead, the horrors of being killed simply by just living are like casted shadows on their everyday lives.

The UE Journalism Society would like to further express its solidarity with all the victims who have been gravely impacted by the still ongoing genocide happening in Gaza. "Victory" and true freedom should not be at the expense of thousands and millions of human lives.

Read and scroll through the slides/photos to get to know some basic information that can make us more informed and aware of their situation, one of the least things we can do, and ways to help and show our support.

Everyday, we can always try to be better and to do better. In doing so, we hope that we consciously try to make the right steps and actions as we educate ourselves more about the current national and global issues that we need to care about and speak up for—as always, for the people and the truth.

𝗖𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗯𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝟭𝟮𝟲𝘁𝗵 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗗𝗮𝘆 🇵🇭✊🏼

On June 4, a Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC) team raided an illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) hub in Porac, Pampanga, on complaints of human trafficking and other criminal activities.

The raid unearthed evidences of s*x trafficking, torture, kidnapping, scamming, and drug use, where foreign nationals were involved. Additionally, it led to the discovery of suspected Chinese military uniforms associated with the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA).

The arrested suspects were reportedly connected to a POGO complex in Bamban, Tarlac, the "home" of suspended Bamban Mayor Alice Guo.

As we commemorate Philippine Independence Day, let's keep having a critical eye on any threats to our national security and sovereignty. Let's not forget the solidarity and courage it took for our fellow Filipinos to fight for our independence and autonomy 126 years ago.

This academic year, we have seen great excellence from our dear members in their corresponding programs and in various fields.

More than a month ago, the UE CAS Manila held the 'Dangal ng Silangan 2024' that recognizes student leaders, athletes, cultural preservation activists, and journalists from the college.

Before its final term ends, the UE Journalism Society would like to acknowledge and congratulate the following officers and members who were also recipients of the awards from the said program.

In addition, we would like to congratulate everyone who has received an Exemplary Academic Performance Award and other special awards and citations at the UE Manila's Collegiate Recognition Program 2024.

𝐌𝐀𝐍𝐃𝐈𝐑𝐈𝐆𝐌𝐀, 𝐈𝐊𝐀𝐖 𝐀𝐍𝐆 𝐓𝐀𝐋𝐎 𝐊𝐀𝐏𝐀𝐆 𝐇𝐈𝐍𝐃𝐈 𝐊𝐀 𝐁𝐔𝐌𝐎𝐓𝐎!

Onsite UE Manila students may vote anytime between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. using their smartphone/laptop/gadget OR they can visit any official voting precincts (LB 906 and LB 908) on the 9th floor of the Lualhati Building.

Dentistry students can also vote using their personal devices OR they can visit the Satellite Polling Precinct established at the Guidance Center on the Mezzanine floor of the UE Annex building.

Election results will be announced at the SFC Quadrangle after the election period.

Today, we once again celebrate the annual World Press Day with this year's theme, "A Press for the Planet: Journalism in the face of the Environmental Crisis."

As part of this year's commemoration, The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) awarded the World Press Freedom Prize to Palestinian journalists who have been covering the ongoing conflict and genocide in Gaza.

Highlighting on this year's theme, the crucial role of journalists in amplifying environmental stories should not be taken lightly. Plenty of times, people get to know the existence of an environmental issue because of its media coverage. The press lets the public know who are being affected by environmental crises and in what ways.

Journalists step up to tell us the truth. Globally, many persevering journalists, media professionals, and members of the press work hard day and night to give quality news to their fellow people. Through their efforts and courage, people get to know what is happening on different parts of our planet.

And now, with the different crises happening all over the world—from environmental to humanitarian, journalists are still at the frontlines despite the everyday risk of being hurt, killed, redtagged, politically imprisoned, and many more risks that they face.

The UE Journalism Society continues to believe in our fight for press freedom as it continues to be challenged and violated not just in the Philippines but also in other countries.

Today, we honor those who died and those who continue to live, "for the people and the truth."

Kasabay ng araw na ito, tayo ay patuloy na nakikiisa at tumitindig kasama ng ating mga manggagawang Pilipino lalo na't ngayong patuloy pa ring lumalaban para sa kanilang hanapbuhay ang isang sektor ng mga manggagawa sa ating lipunan—ang ating mga PUV drayber.

Hindi tuluyang makakakilos ang ating bayan kung wala ang ating mga manggagawa.

The UE Journalism Society is one in celebrating Earth Day today, April 22. This day serves as a reminder for us to reflect on the individual and collective impact of our human activities on our precious planet.

Moreover, Earth Day serves to persistently call for action from us, individuals, but more especially from big corporations and people in power to combat climate change and other environmental concerns, especially with this year's theme, "Planet vs. Plastics".

Let's continue to protect and care for our planet 'cause there is truly only one Planet Earth.

The UE Journalism Society (JournSoc) and the Magdamag Productions recently concluded their first webinar, '𝘽𝙖𝙠𝙞𝙩 𝘽𝙖 𝘽𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙗𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙖 𝙋𝙖 '𝙔𝙖𝙣? 𝙒𝙝𝙮 𝙎𝙤𝙛𝙩 𝙉𝙚𝙬𝙨 𝙈𝙖𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙨 𝙏𝙤𝙤,' last Monday, April 15, via Google Meet.

INQUIRER.net multimedia reporter 𝙈𝙨. 𝙅𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙘𝙖 𝘼𝙣𝙣 𝙀𝙫𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙚𝙡𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙖 discussed the essence of entertainment news, stating that besides entertaining and informing or inspiring the audience, it balances the chaos and brings people together no matter where they come from.

As an online journalist, she disclosed that she gets stories from her own coverages, social media, press releases, and other outlets, debunking the misconception that digital media networks compete with each other.

At the same time, Daily Tribune lifestyle and entertainment reporter 𝙈𝙨. 𝙋𝙖𝙪𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙚 𝙅𝙤𝙮𝙘𝙚 𝙋𝙖𝙨𝙘𝙪𝙖𝙡 underscored that the Philippine entertainment scene has cultural significance, economic impact, and influence on society. It provides escape and entertainment and gives inspiration and aspiration to the audience, she added.

Taking the audience through her field experiences, she advised aspiring lifestyle journalists to keep on reading and writing, building their portfolio, and trusting their own voice.

Together with UE Journalism Society, Magdamag Productions express their heartfelt gratitude to God for this successful event, to our notable speakers, Ms. Evangelista and Ms. Pascual, JournSoc adviser Dr. Julius Cesar Pascual, Subject Professor Jessa May Garcia, JournSoc officers and members, and all the participants who attended.

Here's another update for you, Warriors — The ‘𝘽𝙖𝙠𝙞𝙩 𝙗𝙖 𝘽𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙗𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙖 𝙥𝙖 ‘𝙔𝙖𝙣? 𝙒𝙝𝙮 𝙎𝙤𝙛𝙩 𝙉𝙚𝙬𝙨 𝙈𝙖𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙨 𝙏𝙤𝙤’ is now approved as a project of both Magdamag Productions and the UE Journalism Society and will be conducted 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 (𝘄𝗲𝗯𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗿) 𝘃𝗶𝗮 𝗚𝗼𝗼𝗴𝗹𝗲 𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁 due to the recent announcement from the University of the East regarding the varying shift in the modality of classes.

Now then, two exceptional women in the field of journalism will grace our long-awaited webinar ✍🏻

A multimedia reporter at INQUIRER.net and alumna of the University of the East Bachelor of Arts in Journalism (Batch 2023), Ms. Jessica Ann Evangelista will tackle the 𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗻𝗲𝘄𝘀 today and take us through the 𝗽𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝗼𝗳𝘁 𝗻𝗲𝘄𝘀 in the online context.

Alongside her is Ms. Pauline Joyce Pascual, a lifestyle and entertainment writer at Daily Tribune and University of Santo Tomas graduate, who will discuss the 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘀𝗰𝗲𝗻𝗲 and its ties with the Filipino culture, and the 𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗱 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀 of an entertainment journalist.

Today, our Muslim brothers and sisters celebrate Eid al-Fitr or the Feast of Ramadan that signifies the end of the holy month of Ramadan when Muslims commemorate the revelation of Qur'an and observe fasting from dusk to dawn as a form of spiritual discipline and reflection.

Eid-al Fitr or Eid'l Fitrt is marked by the sighting of the Shawwal (tenth month of the Islamic calendar) crescent moon. As believers celebrate this day with gratitude and compassion, may Allah continue to bless us with His many gifts, including the Gift of love, that we can share upon other people.

During this time where not everyone who celebrates Eid may not be able to peacefully do so, especially those who unjustfully become victims of violence, oppression, and genocide; may we offer our prayers and solidarity for them and continue to speak up and call for what is direly needed—a permanent ceasefire along with sufficient humanitarian aid.
