True ambition is defined by how far one is willing to push oneself. Looking back at his journey at Ilocos Sur Community College (ISCC), he can proudly say that his success was built through relentless grit, unwavering faith, and an absolute belief in the power of education.
His path was far from traditional. He first graduated from ISCC's Caregiving program in 2012, graduating at the top of his class. Driven by a deep passion for the culinary arts and customer service, he chose to return to ISCC and pursue a Bachelor of Science in Hotel and Restaurant Management (BSHRM).
College became a remarkable balancing act. Coming from a poor family, he lost his father when he was just a year old. His mother raised the family on her own, working as both a farmer and a laundrywoman. To complete his education, he balanced the responsibilities of being a working student while maintaining his provincial scholarship under the PGIS. Through extraordinary discipline and with the guidance of God, along with the unwavering support of his family and friends, he not only persevered but excelled.
During his years at ISCC, he actively participated in cooking competitions, quiz bees, and pageants. In 2016, his team won the championship at the Vigan Longganisa Festival, bringing pride to ISCC, while he was also crowned Mr. ISCC. When he graduated in 2018 at the age of 27, he earned the distinction of Cum Laude, ranked Batch Top 1, and received the Best in OJT Award twice.
After graduation, he dedicated himself to building his professional career. He advanced from being a crew member to becoming a Manager at Shakey's Candon, where he served for four years. In 2022, he had the honor of returning to his alma mater's community as a judge for the Kannawidan Festival's Chef Wars and was recognized as one of ISCC's Best Alumni nominees.
That same year, he achieved one of his greatest dreams when he was hired as a Food Service Supervisor for McDonald's in รle-Perrot, Quebec, Canada, where he now serves as the Stocks and Inventory Manager. Moving from the tropical climate of the Philippines to the harsh Canadian winters presented significant challenges. Living and working in Quebec also required proficiency in French. Through perseverance and continuous learning, he successfully attained Level 5 proficiency in the French language.
Drawing from his own experiences, he shares the following advice with students:
โข Dream big, even when resources are limited. One's background does not determine one's future.
โข Believe in your capabilities. Discover your unique talents and continue developing them.
โข It is never too late to pursue your dreams. He graduated from college at the age of 27, proving that age is never a barrier to success when determination is present.
โข Always give back. Never forget the people who helped shape the person you have become.
โข Stay grounded. No matter how far success takes you, remain kind, humble, and grateful.
His life stands as a testament that poverty is not a barrier to success. Through passion, discipline, perseverance, faith, and humility, it is possible to bridge the gap between humble beginnings and achieving a global dream.
