What makes life worth holding on to?

Sometimes, we just need a moment to pause and remember the people, dreams, and little things that give us a reason to keep going.

In this video, some of the UMBC family were asked a simple yet meaningful question:

“What is something worth holding on to?”
“What is your reason to keep going?”

Their answers remind us that hope can be found in many places--in our loved ones, our dreams, our friends, our goals, and even in the small moments that make life meaningful.

May this video remind everyone that there is always something worth holding on to. And when things feel heavy, you don't have to carry them alone. Reaching out, talking to someone, and asking for help can be the first step toward finding hope again.

Let’s Talk. Let’s Listen. Let’s Help.

Su***de prevention starts with awareness, compassion, and the courage to have honest conversations about mental health.

In this video, our faculty members share important insights on:
Awareness: Why talking openly about su***de and mental health matters
Warning Signs: What signs may indicate that someone is struggling
Responding: How we can respond when someone opens up about suicidal thoughts
Hope & Help-Seeking: A reminder that asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness

Sometimes, a simple “Are you okay?” can open the door to a conversation that could make a difference.

Let’s create a community where people feel heard, supported, and never alone.

Help is available. 💛

Your life matters.
Your story matters.

YOU MATTER.

‎🧠 PSYCHE THIS OUT! 🕵🏻‍♀️
‎
‎Ever wondered how psychologists determine whether a behavior, thought, or emotion may be considered psychologically abnormal? 👀
‎
‎One useful framework in Abnormal Psychology is the 4 D’s: Dysfunction, Distress, Deviance, and Danger. 💭
‎
‎1. DYSFUNCTION
‎Breakdown in cognitive, emotional, or behavioral functioning.
‎2. DISTRESS
‎The individual is extremely upset and cannot function properly.
‎3. DEVIANCE
‎Behavior, thoughts, or emotions that deviate from the average or the norms of the culture.
‎4. DANGER
‎Creates a potential harm to oneself or others.
‎
‎NOTE 💌:
‎The 4 D’s serve as a guiding framework in understanding psychological disorders. The presence of one D alone does not automatically mean that a person has a psychological disorder.

Psychology Department Celebrates Ma’am Merra Thea O. Guinoo’s Generative AI Certification Achievement

UM BANSALAN COLLEGE — The Psychology Department celebrates the successful completion of the Generative AI Foundations Certification by Ma’am Merra Thea O. Guinoo, following the certification examination held on August 6, 2026, at the University of Mindanao (UM) Main Campus in Matina, Davao City.

As part of the first batch of University of Mindanao faculty members to undertake the certification under the Critical Career Skills (CCS) program, Ma’am Thea’s accomplishment reflects her dedication to professional development, openness to innovation, and commitment to becoming a future-ready educator.

The Generative AI Foundations Certification equips educators with foundational knowledge and skills in generative artificial intelligence, promoting the responsible and meaningful use of emerging technologies in teaching, learning, and professional practice. It likewise supports educators in developing relevant, future-focused competencies that can help prepare students for an increasingly digital educational landscape.

Joining Ma’am Thea in earning the certification are Ma’am Jaycel Bayron of the Department of Accounting Education and Sir Rolando Ebol of the Department of Business Administration Education.

Their accomplishment reflects the University of Mindanao’s continuing efforts to strengthen faculty development, technological innovation, and academic excellence. Through initiatives such as the CCS certification, the university continues to encourage its educators to develop competencies responsive to the changing demands of education and the digital world.

For the Psychology Family of UM Bansalan College, Ma’am Thea’s accomplishment is a source of pride and inspiration.

Congratulations, Ma’am Merra Thea O. Guinoo!

Your dedication to continuous learning and willingness to embrace emerging technologies exemplify the kind of growth and innovation that shape future-ready educators. PSYCHIKA | EP. 02

Bringing Stories to Life, One Conversation at a Time

Every first step comes with a story—and every freshman has a reason behind the path they choose.

For this episode of PSYCHIKA, we caught up with our Psychology freshmen during the UM Bansalan College Freshmen General Orientation 2026 to discover the stories behind their choice of Psychology and the essentials they brought as they begin this exciting new chapter.

From the question, “Why did you choose Psychology?” to the ever-important “What’s your back-to-school essential?”, our freshmen shared answers that reflect their personalities, aspirations, and excitement for the journey ahead.

For some, Psychology is a path toward understanding people. For others, it is a step toward a dream career or a deeper purpose. Whatever brought them here, each story marks the beginning of a unique journey toward becoming future psychology professionals.

As they take their UNANG TAHAK toward a journey of learning, growth, and discovery, may they continue to carry their dreams with purpose, their curiosity with courage, and their passion for understanding people with heart.

Because every future psychologist has a reason for choosing this path—and every journey begins with a single step.
