If a job demands that you sacrifice your physical health, it's not the right opportunity.

If a relationship requires you to shrink your personality, compromise your values, or constantly walk on eggshells, itโ€™s not the right connection.

Anything that forces you to abandon yourself to keep it isn't a blessing; it's a trap.

The right environments will challenge you to grow, but they will never ask you to dismantle your core just to fit into their framework.

If staying requires you to lose your peace, then, the price is far too high.

๐ˆ๐ง๐ช๐ฎ๐ข๐œ๐ฅ๐ข๐œ๐ค๐ฌ | UMBC Holds Earthquake and Fire Drill

The UM Bansalan College (UMBC) conducted an earthquake and fire drill earlier today, October 14, 2026, to strengthen disaster preparedness and promote emergency awareness among students and personnel. The activity commenced at 1:30 p.m. at the collegeโ€™s open grounds, with the participation of students, school heads, teaching and non-teaching personnel, the Physical Plant Management and General Services (PPMGS) Office, the Security and Safety Office (SSO), the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)โ€“Bansalan, and the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO).

At 2:30 p.m., the program proceeded to the gymnasium, where School Director Dr. Jenny T. Hernan delivered her opening message, emphasizing the importance of disaster preparedness and the need for proper responses during emergencies. She also introduced the representatives from the MDRRMO and BFPโ€“Bansalan who facilitated the activity and guided the school community throughout the drill.

During the orientation, students were reminded to take the exercise seriously and perform the Duck, Cover, and Hold procedure when the alarm sounded for one minute to simulate ground shaking. They were also instructed to evacuate to an open area away from potential secondary hazards, including houses, buildings, and trees.

Meanwhile, the BFP conducted a live demonstration on the proper use of a fire extinguisher to extinguish burning wood. BFP Inspector Mary Grace Asoy further emphasized the importance of closing doors when leaving rooms to help prevent the spread of fire and unplugging electrical appliances when necessary. Likewise, MDRRMO RCC II/Operations and Warning Respondent Mr. Joseph Christian Chatto, RN, shared his observations and highlighted the importance of orderly evacuation, reminding students and teachers to assemble in designated lines according to their respective rooms or offices once outside.

Following the exercise, the evaluators commended UMBC for its overall response during the drill. Students were then given the opportunity to share their feedback, after which Dr. Hernan reiterated the need for greater alertness, cooperation, and responsiveness during emergencies.

The activity concluded with a photo opportunity featuring the BFP and MDRRMO personnel alongside UMBCโ€™s teaching and non-teaching staff, marking another step toward fostering a safer and more disaster-ready school community.

The Inquisitive Eye, the official student publication of UM Bansalan College, successfully conducted its Photojournalism and Picture Editing Workshop on October 10, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Accounting Laboratory. With the theme โ€œShoot with Purpose, Edit with Heart,โ€ the activity brought together campus journalists and aspiring photographers to enhance their visual storytelling skills and deepen their understanding of responsible photojournalism.

The program commenced with an audio-visual presentation of the opening prayer, followed by the singing of the Philippine National Anthem and the UM Hymn. Subsequently, Editor-in-Chief Ms. Arly Mhaeh Salut introduced the resource speaker, Mr. John Rodel Tinampay, owner of Jhnrt Studio and Photography, who guided the participants throughout the workshop.

The afternoon session featured two key topics: Photojournalism and Picture Editing. Mr. Tinampay discussed the fundamental principles of capturing compelling images, including proper angles, lighting, and framing, while emphasizing the importance of ethical editing in preserving the authenticity of photographs. Following the discussions, the participants engaged in a hands-on photography workshop, where the staff captured images by applying the techniques and principles they had learned from the resource speaker. Each participant then presented their photographs, showcasing their creativity, understanding, and ability to convey stories through images. The activity was followed by an open forum and workshop sharing, where participants raised questions, exchanged insights, and reflected on their experiences.

The program concluded with the awarding of a certificate and a token of appreciation to the resource speaker, presented by Editor-in-Chief Ms. Arly Mhaeh Salut together with publication adviser Mr. Antonio Sumabat, Jr., in recognition of his valuable contribution to the development of the publication's staff.

Anchored in its commitment to developing skilled and responsible campus journalists, the workshop provided an opportunity for participants to strengthen their technical abilities, explore their creativity, and collaborate through visual storytelling. More than a skills-building activity, it reinforced the idea that photographs are not merely images but powerful tools for documenting realities, conveying stories, and upholding the truth.

Through this initiative, The Inquisitive Eye continues to sharpen the skills of its staff and inspire them to capture meaningful moments with purpose, edit with integrity, and tell stories that deserve to be seen.
