World Architecture Day 2025: Design for Strength

๐Ÿ“… 6 October

Created by the UIA in 1985, World Architecture Day is celebrated annually on the first Monday of October, in parallel with the United Nations World Habitat Day. In 2025, in the context of urban crisis response, the UIA has selected the theme โ€œDesign for Strength.โ€

This theme invites architects to move beyond short-term solutions and embrace approaches that strengthen the built environmentโ€™s ability to withstand, adapt, and recover. Architecture must offer more than shelter โ€” it should contribute to equity, continuity, and resilience.

Key messages:
โ€“ Strength in design: Architecture must embody durability, resilience, and cultural sensitivity.
โ€“ A platform for resilience: The built environment plays a vital role in protecting and rebuilding communities.
โ€“ Sustainable rebuilding: Responsible materials and methods should guide repair and adaptation.

The recent devastation caused by Typhoon Emong has left several communities displaced, flooded, and in desperate need of immediate aid. Lives have been disrupted, homes destroyed, and basic necessities are now out of reach for many.

In light of this, we are launching a donation drive to extend relief and support to those affected by this calamity. Through ๐—จ๐—”๐—ฃ๐—ฆ๐—”๐—ก๐——๐—œ๐—š๐—”๐—ก, we call upon our fellow student-architects, professionals, and kind-hearted individuals to take part in this mission of hope and recovery.

๐—ช๐—˜ ๐—”๐—ฅ๐—˜ ๐—”๐—–๐—–๐—˜๐—ฃ๐—ง๐—œ๐—ก๐—š:

๐Ÿ“ฆ In-Kind Donations:

- Ready-to-eat food (canned goods, noodles, biscuits)
- Bottled water
- Hygiene kits (soap, shampoo, toothpaste, sanitary pads, etc.)
- Medicines and first-aid supplies
- Clean clothes (all ages)
- Blankets, towels, and mats
- Slippers or footwear
- Diapers (babies and adults)
