Banate Sea and Land Modern Day Heroes Organization Conducts OFW Advocacy Reading Camp 2026

BARANGAY MERCED, BANATE, ILOILO – June 27, 2026 — The Banate Sea and Land Modern Day Heroes Organization, led by its President, Mr. Noli Apachica, successfully conducted the OFW Advocacy on Reading Camp 2026 at Barangay Merced, Banate, Iloilo, in partnership with Rufino A. Cabangal Memorial Elementary School. With the theme, "Inspired by Modern-Day Heroes, Empowered Through Reading," the program aimed to promote literacy while inspiring young learners through the dedication and sacrifices of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs).

The reading camp gathered 42 selected learners from Rufino A. Cabangal Memorial Elementary School, who actively participated in storytelling sessions, guided reading, and interactive literacy activities facilitated by members of the Banate OFW community. The volunteers dedicated their time and effort to encourage the learners to develop a lifelong love for reading.

The event was graced by Mrs. Glory Jean A. Bacayo, Head of the Banate Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO), who commended the initiative and emphasized the importance of reading in shaping the future of every child.

The activity also received the full support of the Barangay Council of Barangay Merced, headed by Punong Barangay Cezar Cabangal, together with the Barangay Kagawads, whose presence highlighted the barangay's commitment to supporting programs that promote education and youth development.

Serving as the event's resource speaker was SK Chairperson Angela Padilla, who was chosen by the OFW organization to inspire the participants. In her message, she encouraged the learners to embrace reading as a gateway to knowledge, personal growth, and future success.

The successful conduct of the OFW Advocacy on Reading Camp 2026 showcased the strong collaboration among the Banate Sea and Land Modern Day Heroes Organization, the local government, Barangay Merced officials, Rufino A. Cabangal Memorial Elementary School, and the Banate OFW community. Through their collective efforts, the initiative reinforced the shared commitment to empowering children through literacy and nurturing the next generation of informed, confident, and lifelong learners.

RACMES Welcomes 153 Learners for SY 2026-2027; Stakeholders and Barangay Officials Rally Behind Safe School Opening

RUFINO A. CABANGAL MEMORIAL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL — The campus gates officially swung open today to welcome a total of 153 eager learners for the launch of School Year 2026-2027. The morning commenced with a solemn and proud first Flag Ceremony, signaling a fresh year of academic journey and community collaboration.

Strong Stakeholder and LGU Support
Demonstrating the solid partnership between the school and the community, the event was graced by SPTA President and Kagawad Dante Carugda, who attended to inspire the students, parents, and faculty alike.

The successful opening was made possible through the unwavering support of the local government unit, led by Punong Barangay Kap Cezar Cabangal, ensuring that the school environment is fully prepared and conducive to learning.

Safety and Security First
To guarantee the peace of mind of parents and the safety of the children, Barangay Tanods were deployed early in the morning. They actively managed the traffic flow along the school zones and secured the perimeters, ensuring a smooth, orderly, and hazard-free entry for all 153 learners.
