School Vegetable Garden; a healthy option.
This project was brought to realization through the initiation, efforts, and dedication of the Grade1 PTA of Abian Elementary School. Many of the concern and responsible parents helped us plant these vegetables. The garden is then maintained by the Grade1 pupils, adviser and parents.
This project aims to:
1) Teach pupils on eating healthy foods. They will learn where their foods are coming from and how they are grown (yes indeed it is scientific).
2) Promote socialization and help build a good interpersonal relationships not only between pupils but also among the parents, teachers, and community as a whole through sharing new adventure and common interest.
3)Enhance teamwork and sense of responsibility. Planting is not a day process but will take time, commitment and hard-work to grow. In the process, pupils will learn the value of helping each other. This includes activities like cleaning the garden, watering plants, removing the twigs and grass, and eventually harvesting the crops.
4)Provide a productive outdoor activity. Having a vegetable garden doesn't only beautify the surroundings but gives you something to eat which is fresh and free--- so it is also economical. This teaches pupils that planting can be a good diversionary activity aside from playing around.
5) Gives feeling of self-worth and accomplishment. This is especially important for growing kids as it will boost their confidence and they will have a positive view of their abilities and capabilities.
