Student teachers were reminded that teaching is not only about daily lesson plans, PowerPoint presentations, and classroom strategies as they participated in the Seminar-Workshop Session centered on “Looking Professional: Developing Professional Presence of a Future Educator,” organized by the College of Teacher Education (CTE) of King’s College of the Philippines–Nueva Vizcaya and held on August 17, 2026.
The event focused on the importance of developing a professional image and presence among pre-service teachers as they prepare to enter the classroom and impart knowledge to learners. The resource speaker, Ma'am Chelsea Kate C. Ochona, LPT, pointed out during the morning session that a student teacher’s appearance, demeanor, and overall presence contribute to how students perceive and interact with them. Moreover, she shared a message that goes beyond physical appearance: “𝗕𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿.” This statement encouraged the pre-service teachers to reflect on the kind of teacher they want to become—not only in appearance but also in their actions, attitudes, and professionalism within and beyond the school community.
The seminar was followed by a practical workshop in the afternoon, where the topics discussed in the morning were put into practice. The student teachers applied basic grooming techniques to achieve a clean and appropriate professional look, including proper makeup application and hair preparation.
Beyond being ready in appearance, the resource speaker also emphasized that true confidence comes from the Creator. She reminded the pre-service teachers that He is the One who gives us the strength to handle every classroom situation. It was a reminder that we are never alone; we simply need to place our confidence and faith in Him.
This meaningful event served as a reminder that professionalism is not always about how one looks, but also about how one carries oneself with confidence, faith, and purpose.✨
