𝐍𝐕𝐒𝐔 𝐄𝐱𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦 𝐘𝐢𝐞𝐥𝐝𝐬 𝐖𝐢𝐧𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐃𝐃𝐒𝐍𝐇𝐒 𝐚𝐭 𝐃𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐒𝐓𝐌 𝐅𝐚𝐢𝐫 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓 | 𝗢𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟭𝟬, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱

Dupax del Sur National High School (DDSNHS) earned notable victories in the 𝗗𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲, 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝗙𝗮𝗶𝗿 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 after several NVSU-trained and assisted student researchers secured awards on October 10, 2025.

In the 𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗖𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗼𝗿𝘆, the group of Allan Calderon, Earl Solis, and Heizy Sicat 𝐰𝐨𝐧 𝟑𝐫𝐝 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞. On the other hand, Jasmine Mangaraay also placed 𝟓𝐭𝐡 in the 𝐋𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐒𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐮𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐨𝐫𝐲. Moreover, in the Innovation Individual Category, Sheyenne Compalas earned 𝟓𝐭𝐡 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞 and the 𝐁𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐲 𝐁𝐨𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝.

These wins highlight the strong collaboration between NVSU and DDSNHS in developing research projects and nurturing student creativity and scientific inquiry. The achievements clearly demonstrate the effectiveness of the Nueva Vizcaya State University–Bambang Campus extension partnership in enhancing research capability and preparing young researchers for division-level competitions.

To prepare and strengthen the research excellence of Dupax del Sur National High School (DDSNHS) for the upcoming Division Science, Technology, and Mathematics Fair 2025, the Nueva Vizcaya State University–Bambang Campus, through faculty members from the College of Teacher Education and the College of Arts and Sciences, facilitated a Lecture-Workshop on Science Research Conceptualization and Experimental Design on September 15, 2025, at the College of Arts and Sciences Audio-Visual Room.

The event was attended by selected Senior High School students, under the supervision of Dr. Jayson Velasco, together with the faculty coaches in Science, Technology, Mathematics, and Robotics. The lecture-workshop commenced with the statement of objectives delivered by Ms. Nessa Charlemae L. Adais. This was followed by Dr. Florence P. Alicante, who introduced the fundamentals of science research and science investigatory projects (SIP).

Dr. Reymund C. Derilo then shared his inspiring journey as a scientist and award-winning SIP coach and mentor, motivating young science enthusiasts and researchers to pursue research excellence. Together with Mr. Mark C. Balonquita, Dr. Derilo discussed topics on “Identifying Researchable Problems, Experimental Designs, and Methodologies” in both Applied/Physical Sciences, and Biological Sciences. Furthermore, Dr. Derilo provided insightful guidelines on writing abstracts, introductions, and optimizing methodologies to enhance the students’ research outputs.

The workshop also featured student group presentations of their research proposals in the fields of Life Science, Physical Science, Innovation, and Robotics. Serving as panel evaluators, Dr. Derilo, Dr. Alicante, Mr. Balonquita, and Ms. Jennylin C. Balagtas offered constructive feedback and valuable recommendations to help refine and strengthen each research project.

Meanwhile, the Mathematics teachers, represented by Ms. Jennie Rose G. Derilo, Ms. Raquel P. Cinco, and Mr. Philip Mark L. Raza, conducted a session on “Statistics for Experimental Research.” They also provided one-on-one consultations with student groups working on Robotics-related studies to guide them in data analysis and interpretation. The program concluded with a synthesis and closing activity, after which the students and their coaches had the opportunity to visit the biological laboratories of the College of Arts and Sciences, gaining further exposure to research facilities and tools.

Overall, the lecture-workshop served as a meaningful preparation for the school’s participation in the upcoming fair and a valuable learning experience that enriched the students’ knowledge and passion for scientific inquiry.

Attendees included Dr. Reymund Derilo, Program Leader from NVSU, Dr. David John D. Ubera, School Head of DDSNHS, Project Leaders and members from NVSU, DDSNHS subject area heads from both junior and senior high school departments, and the main project beneficiaries - DDSNHS students.

The program opened with a warm welcome message delivered by Dr. Jayson Velasco. He was followed by Ms. Jennylin Balagtas, who clearly laid out the objectives and purpose of Project SIKLAB, its focus on science, research, and mathematics literacy. Dr. David John D. Ubera, School Head of DDSNHS, then delivered his message, and expressed his deep appreciation for the partnership and highlighted the school’s readiness to engage in meaningful academic transformation.

Representing NVSU, Dr. Reymund Derilo gave an overview of the project’s vision and scope. He introduced the four flagship initiatives under Project SIKLAB: 🔥 Project ALAB,🔥 Project LIYAB, 🔥 Project DINGAS, and 🔥 Project DAGITAB.

The ceremony culminated in the symbolic signing of the MOA and the ceremonial launch of the project which signifies the official beginning of a collaboration dedicated to nurturing a new generation of scientifically literate, research-oriented learners.

With the MOA now signed and the flame officially ignited, Project SIKLAB is set to bring lasting impact to the learners and educators of Dupax Del Sur National High School.

𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟭𝟲, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰 | 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗦𝗜𝗞𝗟𝗔𝗕 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗱𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗗𝘂𝗽𝗮𝘅 𝗗𝗲𝗹 𝗦𝘂𝗿 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 (𝗗𝗗𝗦𝗡𝗛𝗦). The presentation outlined the goals, components, and anticipated outputs and impact of the project. This marked the beginning of NVSU and DDSNHS collaboration to address the identified needs in science, research, and mathematics education.

The 𝐒𝐈𝐊𝐋𝐀𝐁 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 consists of 𝐟𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐤𝐞𝐲 𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬 aimed at enhancing science, research, and mathematics education. 𝑷𝒓𝒐𝒋𝒆𝒄𝒕 𝑨𝑳𝑨𝑩 focuses on advancing laboratory skills among secondary school teachers and students through workshops on basic laboratory techniques, life and biological science experiments, and seminars on research collaboration and mentorship opportunities. 𝑷𝒓𝒐𝒋𝒆𝒄𝒕 𝑳𝑰𝒀𝑨𝑩 targets youth advancement in basic research by providing training on research conceptualization, scientific writing, data presentation and interpretation, and coaching for public presentations, particularly for national competitions. 𝑷𝒓𝒐𝒋𝒆𝒄𝒕 𝑫𝑰𝑵𝑮𝑨𝑺 aims to improve numeracy and mathematics literacy through mentorship programs, integration of interactive online tools in mathematics learning, and training on accurate measurement techniques. Finally, 𝑷𝒓𝒐𝒋𝒆𝒄𝒕 𝑫𝑨𝑮𝑰𝑻𝑨𝑩 promotes innovative teaching and academic growth by equipping teachers with skills in digital technology and advanced teaching strategies aligned with Education 5.0 standards. Together, these components aim to build stronger foundations in science, research, and mathematics for both teachers and students.

𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟵, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰 | SIKLAB Project Leader, R. Derilo, presented the workplan during the 𝗜𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟵, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰 at the Alumni Center, NVSU Bambang Campus. Present during the presentation were Dr. Maribel Bacena, Director for Extension and Training, Dr. Jonar I. Yago, Vice President for Research, Extension, and Training and other project implementers. The meeting served as a platform to discuss the project’s direction, timelines, and implementation strategies, to ensure the alignment of the project with NVSU's goals and objectives.

𝗝𝗮𝗻𝘂𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝟭𝟴, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰 | The 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 for SIKLAB Project was made. The leaders were tasked with overseeing the successful delivery of each project component.

𝗝𝗮𝗻𝘂𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝟭𝟱, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰 | Based on the findings from both the FGD and the TNA survey conducted with teachers and students, an extension project proposal was crafted. This gave rise to the 𝗦𝗜𝗞𝗟𝗔𝗕 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁, 𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗱𝗱𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗴𝗮𝗽𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲, 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.

𝗢𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟭𝟳, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟯 | Based on the results of the FGD, a 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗡𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 (𝗧𝗡𝗔) 𝗧𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗰𝗿𝗮𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗳𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗯𝗼𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝗗𝗗𝗦𝗡𝗛𝗦. This crafted tool underwent a validation process in October 2023 to ensure its reliability and accuracy in capturing the needed data which served as the basis for crafting our Extension Project Proposal.

Following its validation, the TNA Tool was administered to students to further determine the needs initially identified by the teachers. This triangulation process provided a better understanding of the challenges and gaps in research, science and mathematics education from both perspectives.

𝗢𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟭𝟯, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟯 | To determine the needs of the science and mathematics instruction at Dupax Del Sur National High School, NVSU facilitated a 𝗙𝗼𝗰𝘂𝘀 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗽 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗰𝘂𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 (𝗙𝗚𝗗) 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀. The FGD provided a platform for teachers to share their challenges, best practices, and recommendations for improving instructional delivery and student engagement for research, science and mathematics.

Complementing the discussion, laboratory visits were conducted to assess available resources and explore opportunities for enhancing practical learning experiences.

𝗢𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟭𝟯, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟯 | In pursuit of enhancing the quality of science, research, and mathematics education, the Nueva Vizcaya State University (NVSU) College of Teacher Education, in collaboration with the College of Arts and Sceinces, conducted a 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗡𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝘁 𝗗𝘂𝗽𝗮𝘅 𝗗𝗲𝗹 𝗦𝘂𝗿 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗼𝗻 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟭𝟯, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟯. The result of the TNA became the basis for crafting an extension project which aims to empower teachers and secondary school students with the tools, skills, strategies, and support necessary to address the evolving challenges in research, science and mathematics education.
