Since David Hall is ahead of most of us in time... I want to reiterate the need to pray daily. Here is part of an update he sent me...
For those aware, we thank you for your prayers; we thank God for travel mercy and road safety.
"On the wind He moves with Majesty, though He ruleth over land and sea. What is that to me? "
I prayed for Him to hold the weather for our trip.
We, me, three sisters and two children, boarded the new OceanJet at 3 pm Saturday afternoon.
The eight hour ferry, scheduled to depart at 5 pm had a multitude of travelers waiting for tickets. The OceanJet was more costly but only half the travel time and we acquired tickets in only a few minutes.
The water looked a bit choppy when we boarded in Batangas city, and unknown to us, a typhoon was approaching the islands.
As the ship got out into open waters it picked up speed til it bounced across the waves. For the first two hours, we were impressed by the speed of our sailing....but the approaching maelstrom rose those waves.
I recalled watching speed boats racing on smooth waters where one hit a wave wrong it flew into the air and disentigrated on impact.
Someone said, " we're going too fast", someone else, " the waves are too high"....
We arrived in Odiongan port at 7:30 pm and disembarked. News came to us that the ferry did not leave Batangas port. The winds were high and sheets of rain took turns sweeping across the port docks. There were no jeepney available but we were able to procure a private vehicle which would carry us home.
The ride was like a jeep wrangler, only tarpuline covered the top, there were no windshield wipers, and three guys push started us. I had tried to sit up front but there was no leg space so i sat in the back with the luggage, two of the ladies and one child while the third of the ladies sat up front with the youngest child.
I prayed for a safe trip.
The typhoon was upon us so we quickly loaded up and headed out. The first leg of the two hour ride is fairly flat and straight road but as we began up the windy mountain pass which snakes around the horn of the island, the rain and wind began to pick up.
Nobody else was on the road and the driver used this to round each bend with care.
I prayed for no hydroplaning and no mud or rock slides.
We all got wet but the luggage stayed dry. Just 4 kilometers from home a bamboo tree was fallen across the road but we eased around it and made it home by 10 pm.
No mishaps, no problems.
Would all have been safe if we hadn't prayed? A fool's question. He rules over land and sea, and His love for us is to trust in Him. What is that to me?
Everything!!
