If you’ve been following us for a while now, it’s clear that our camps are full of joy and impactful for all involved. The teachers are always smiling and the students are focused, yet playful during the lessons. The collaboration is truly genuine.

What makes our “We Are Global Citizens” camps such a special experience? We center our work on the motto of “Think, Share Act.” We believe that when young learners are entrusted with real issues that influence their lives, encouraged to speak from their own experiences, and given straight-forward guidance, they are empowered to create meaningful change. And one week is all it takes.

Our GCED lessons emphasizing the importance of Human Rights, Gender Equality, Overcoming Poverty and Protecting the Planet equip students with the outlook and skills to meet real-world problems. Their learning culminates in the final project of the week, the SMART Action Plan. Following the SMART framework and UNESCO’s Sustainable Development Guidelines (SDGs), the students of Soběslav created actionable ways to make the change they want to see. We welcome you to check out the ways our camp students were inspired to take action!

Čau, Soběslav!
Our GCED Taiwan camp has tearfully come to a close. The two camps are done and the impact is palpable.

As mentioned in the previous post, we focused on concepts of Global Citizenship such as Understanding Human Rights and Gender Equality in Our Society. Of equal importance were our lessons Overcoming Poverty and Protecting the Planet. Teachers Buyana Batsuren and James Ian Espina illuminated minds to the realities of living in poverty with a role-play game. And teachers Jane Chou and Gloria Benitez highlighted sustainable policies from around the world.

We also continued our globetrotting adventures through the culture and art of Mongolia, the USA, Paraguay, and the Philippines. Students created felted cup holders, shared songs of home, danced with grace, and created messages for future Global Citizens.

Our closing ceremony celebrated this significant collaboration between the historic city of Soběslav and its generous people. This effort was only feasible with the trust and hearts of all involved. We are grateful to have accomplished so much together in these two short weeks.

Ahoj, Soběslav!

What an inspiring opening ceremony for the GCED Czech Camp!
ZŠ SOBĚSLAV KOMENSKÉHO Elementary School gave GCED Taiwan such a warm welcome. We were greeted with smiles and minds eager to engage with new perspectives.

On our first days of camp, Soběslav’s young Global Citizens learned about Understanding Human Rights, led by teachers Julia Chen and Ben Jian. The students dove right into the lesson, addressing how to combat school bullying with sustainable acts of kindness. The next GCED lesson focused on Gender Equality in Our Society. Teachers Thea Huang and Erica Lin guided the class in analyzing and creating solutions for case studies.

Of course, another aspect of being a Global Citizen is discovering cultures far and wide. As yet, our volunteer teachers have shared the cultures of Taiwan and Vietnam to the Czech students. We graciously welcome them to see these beautiful places themselves!

Hallo, Vienna!
Just as the sun rose on the gray horizon, our plane landed at the Vienna International Airport. We quickly shed our luggage at our BnB and immersed ourselves in the winter romance of the city.

And what sights and culinary delights we had! From the Baroque palaces to the Hundertwasser Village, and the OG Wiener schnitzel to the döner kebabs, we embraced the rich mix of traditional and modern Austrian culture.

The highlight of our two days in Vienna was the visit to the United Nations Office. It was inspiring to be on location during the 63rd session of the UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS) Scientific and Technical Subcommittee (STSC). They say to “shoot for the moon” when it comes to your aspirations. Well, when the moon rock comes to you, what excuse do you have not to aim even further?

A whirlwind 48 hours later, it’s safe to say Vienna will live forever in our hearts. Until next time, Vienna!

T minus 48 hours for our flight to Europe!
The team is so happy that the work from the online meetings and the camp planning is finally starting to show! Over the last few days, we have been tackling our final preparations. Our lesson materials have been gathered and printed. And now our bags are almost packed. The weather forecast doesn’t promise snow, but we have our fingers crossed!

Preparing for Czechia Camp 🇨🇿✨

This February, we are heading to the Czech Republic for a camp focused on GCED teaching and cultural exchange. A team of 10 members from 7 different countries, brought together by a shared vision.

As we get ready to go, we have taken part in several online meetings and in-person sharing sessions,discussing lesson plans, exchanging ideas, and getting to know each other.
