July 15, 2026 โ€” As ASCOT advances its transition as a university, CHED Commissioner and ASCOT Board of Trustees Chairperson Michelle Aguilar Ong underscored that institutional transformation must also be matched by the growth of its people.

Speaking before ASCOT faculty members and personnel, Commissioner Ong challenged educators to embrace their roles as teachers, advocates, and scholars.

She urged faculty members to understand today's students beyond grades and academic performance and to recognize their role as mentors committed to helping every learner succeed.
โ€œThe moment we accept them in the classroom, we want them to be successful like our own children.โ€

She also encouraged educators to stand for meaningful causes and carry their advocacies beyond the classroom and into the communities they serve.

โ€œWe should be champions. We should be advocates.โ€

On research, Commissioner Ong emphasized that creating knowledge requires focus, creativity, consistency, and the decision to keep going.

โ€œIt's us who look for inspiration. It's us who decide what should motivate us and drive us every day for research.โ€

Her message was clear: a strong university is shaped not only by institutional milestones, but by teachers who understand, advocates who champion meaningful causes, and scholars who continue to create knowledge.

As ASCOT grows, we grow with it.
Thank you, Office of CHED Commissioner Michelle Aguilar Ong!

July 15, 2026 โ€” The Aurora State College of Technology (ASCOT) officially opened the ASCOT SHINE Child Minding Center, providing a safe and nurturing space for the children of student-parents and employees while they attend classes or fulfill work responsibilities.

Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Commissioner and ASCOT Board of Trustees Chairperson Michelle Aguilar Ong graced the inauguration as guest of honor and highlighted the value of simple initiatives that create meaningful change.

โ€œA successful project does not need to be loud. Does not need to be grand. Simple things that create impact. Simple things that could transform lives,โ€ Commissioner Ong said.

The Center was championed by ASCOT President Dr. Renato G. Reyes, who pushed the idea forward despite the absence of a dedicated budget for the facility. What began as an empty room gradually took shape through personal contributions, shared resources, and volunteerism.

President Reyes was among those who personally contributed to the Center, while ASCOT officials, friends, and volunteers also shared resources and extended support in their own ways.

Student volunteers helped paint, clean, and prepare the space, collectively transforming the room into a welcoming environment for children.

ASCOT SHINE supports CHED's Project PAG-IBIG, which promotes child-minding facilities for student-parents, solo parents, employees, and surrounding communities.

Commissioner Ong was at ASCOT for the 123rd Regular Meeting of the ASCOT Board of Trustees later in the afternoon. Her visit also included an engagement with ASCOT faculty and staff.

Through ASCOT SHINE, a shared vision and collective effort have opened a space where children can safely learn, play, and grow while their parents continue to pursue their education and work.

At Aurora State College of Technology (ASCOT), the answer is found in every colorful wall, every storybook, every toy, and every smile waiting to be shared inside ASCOT SHINE โ€“ Child Minding Center.

What began as a vision to create a safe and nurturing space for children soon became a collective effort fueled by volunteerism and generosity. Students spent their free time painting cheerful murals, bringing life and color to the center. Faculty and staff rolled up their sleeves to clean, organize, and prepare the facility. Partners, stakeholders, and generous donors contributed books, toys, learning materials, and other essentials, each offering becoming part of a shared commitment to children and families.

No single person built ASCOT SHINE.

It was made possible by a community that believed every act of kindness, no matter how small, could help create something meaningful.

Led by ASCOT President Dr. Renato G. Reyes, the initiative reflects ASCOT's commitment to building a more inclusive and family-friendly campus. The center also supports the Commission on Higher Education's (CHED) Project PAG-IBIG (Parents' Access to Growth through Inclusive, Balanced, and Innovative Guidance), which encourages state universities and colleges to establish child-minding facilities that support student-parents, solo parents, employees, and surrounding communities.

Managed by early childhood education specialists, ASCOT SHINE will provide a safe, engaging, and nurturing environment where children can learn, play, read, and grow while their parents attend classes, fulfill work responsibilities, or pursue opportunities with greater peace of mind.

The center will be formally inaugurated on July 15, 2026, with CHED Commissioner and ASCOT Board of Trustees Chairperson Michelle A. Ong leading the ceremony.

Beyond the opening of a new facility, ASCOT SHINE stands as a reminder of what can happen when a community shares not only its resources, but also its time, talent, and compassion.

In the end, the greatest contribution was never measured by the number of toys donated or hours volunteeredโ€”it was measured by the willingness of people to come together for a shared purpose.

Because when a community chooses to care, every child is given a brighter place to learn, grow, and shine.

July 8, 2026 โ€” The next generation of environmental champions is ready to make an impact as 204 graduates from ASCOT's School of Forestry and Environmental Sciences (SFES) celebrated their graduation during the 42nd Commencement Exercises.

In his message, Guest Speaker For. Jimmy G. Aberin, CENR Officer of DENR CENRO Dingalan, encouraged the graduates to stay rooted in purpose and let their knowledge grow into meaningful service for people and the planet.

From protecting forests to restoring ecosystems, the journey doesn't end at graduationโ€”it begins here.

Congratulations, ASCOT SFES Class of 2026!

Aurora State College of Technology (ASCOT) joined 21 other progressive State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) in strengthening academic collaboration during the 2nd Presidents' Roundtable Meeting for Unified Strategic Growth (Midyear Session) held on July 8โ€“9, 2026 at the Clark Freeport Zone, Pampanga.

Representing the College, ASCOT President Dr. Renato G. Reyes participated in the CHED-led gathering convened by Office of CHED Commissioner Michelle Aguilar Ong where SUC leaders reviewed initiatives from the inaugural roundtable in 2025 and discussed strategies to advance public higher education through stronger institutional collaboration.

A highlight of the meeting was the signing of a multilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), which establishes a framework for student and faculty mobility, internship opportunities, collaborative research, academic exchanges, innovation initiatives, and knowledge sharing among participating institutions.

The roundtable also served as a platform for Higher Education Institution leaders to exchange best practices, explore emerging trends in higher education, and strengthen partnerships that respond to the evolving needs of learners, industries, and communities.

For ASCOT, the partnership expands opportunities for students, faculty, and researchers while reinforcing the College's commitment to quality education, innovation, and meaningful collaboration in support of national development.
