My Experience at the 2nd La Union Youth Congress on Human Rights

As a Grade 10 student leader, I had the incredible opportunity to attend the 2nd La Union Youth Congress on Human Rights, held at the La Union Convention Center, Sevilla, San Fernando City, La Union, on December 5, 2024. This event brought together young leaders across the province to discuss and reflect on critical issues affecting our society.

The congress featured five impactful sessions, each designed to inspire and empower us as youth advocates.

The opening session on voters' education for the youth highlighted the significance of informed decision-making in elections. As future voters, we were reminded of our duty to choose leaders who embody integrity and commitment to public service.

The second session focused on creating inclusive spaces through RA 11313 or the Safe Spaces Act. It underscored the importance of fostering environments built on respect and accountability to ensure everyone feels safe and accepted.

A particularly eye-opening discussion tackled standing up against bullying, encouraging us to speak out and support those who may feel powerless. It reminded me of the importance of creating a culture of empathy in our schools and communities.

The fourth talk emphasized children's rights and protection under RA 7610, which served as a call to action for us to protect and promote the welfare of every child, especially the most vulnerable.

Lastly, the session on mental health awareness resonated deeply with me. It emphasized breaking the stigma surrounding mental health issues and highlighted the importance of prioritizing self-care while supporting our peers.

Attending this congress has strengthened my commitment to being a proactive advocate for human rights and positive change in my school and community. I am truly grateful for the opportunity to engage with inspiring speakers and passionate young leaders who share a vision of a better future.

As a Grade 11 student and a student leader, I recently had the privilege of attending the 2nd La Union Youth Congress on Human Rights —a transformative event that brought together young leaders like myself to learn, share, and take action on important societal issues held at La Union Convention Center, Sevilla, San Fernando City, La Union on December 5, 2024.

The one-day congress was packed with insights from five inspiring speakers who covered topics crucial to our growth as responsible and empowered individuals.

The first session on voters' education for the youth opened my eyes to the importance of informed and active participation in shaping our nation's future. It reminded me of our collective power as young voters to advocate for leaders with integrity and vision.

The second talk focused on creating inclusive spaces through RA 11313 or the Safe Spaces Act. This session emphasized the need for mutual respect and accountability in building safe environments.

One of the most impactful discussions was about standing up against bullies. It reinforced the importance of courage and empathy in addressing harassment, not just for ourselves but for others who might feel voiceless.

The fourth speaker delved into children's rights and protection under RA 7610, which reminded us of our responsibility to uphold the rights of every child and safeguard their well-being.

Lastly, the talk on mental health resonated deeply with me. It underscored the need to break the stigma surrounding mental health and prioritize self-care while supporting others in their struggles.

Attending this congress has strengthened my resolve to be an active advocate for human rights and a catalyst for positive change in my school and community. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to learn from such insightful speakers and connect with like-minded peers who share the same passion for building a better future.
