Today, 𝗢𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟵, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲, we celebrate 한글날 (𝗛𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘂𝗹 𝗗𝗮𝘆), a special occasion honoring the creation and significance of Hangeul, the Korean alphabet. This year holds particular significance as it marks the 𝟭𝟬𝟬𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝗿𝘆 of the first Hangeul Day celebration in 𝟭𝟵𝟮𝟲, commemorating a century of honoring one of Korea’s most remarkable cultural and linguistic treasures. 🇰🇷✨

Hangeul was created in 1443 under the leadership of King Sejong the Great, the fourth monarch of the Joseon Dynasty, and officially promulgated in 1446. 🖋️

His vision was to provide an accessible and logical writing system that would allow ordinary people to read and write more easily, especially at a time when literacy was limited by the complexity of classical Chinese characters.📚

Today, Hangeul is widely admired for its systematic design and ability to represent the sounds of the Korean language clearly and efficiently. More than just an alphabet, it stands as a lasting symbol of Korea’s cultural identity, national pride, and commitment to making knowledge accessible to all.💙

The King Sejong Institute–Balanga City (KSI-BC) joins the celebration of Hangeul Day, honoring the beauty and heritage of the Korean alphabet. Another dream has been fulfilled as 𝗠𝗿. 𝗗𝗲𝗲𝗷𝗮𝗲 𝗥𝘂𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗼, the 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 𝗞𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗪𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗞𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗲𝗷𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘂𝘁𝗲–𝗕𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗮 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝘆 (𝗞𝗦𝗜-𝗕𝗖), finally sets foot in South Korea today, October 6, 2026 (Tuesday), to participate in the 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 𝗜𝗻𝘃𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗢𝘂𝘁𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀.✨🇰🇷

The journey began on May 23, 2026, when students of KSI-BC participated in the institute’s annual Korean Speaking Contest. Mr. Centeno emerged as the winner, earning the opportunity to represent KSI-BC in Korea through an all-expenses-paid trip and participation in the program, hosted by the King Sejong Institute Foundation.

As part of the event taking place from 𝗢𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟲 𝘁𝗼 𝟭𝟭, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 (𝗦𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘆), winners from King Sejong Institutes around the world gather to participate in various activities, conferences, and cultural exchange programs. Beyond the competition, the initiative provides students with an opportunity to experience Korea firsthand, connect with fellow Korean language learners from different countries, and further strengthen their motivation to continue learning the Korean language.

This opportunity is more than recognition—it is a testament to his dedication and determination in learning Korean. His achievement is also a source of pride for KSI-BC, reflecting the potential of its learners and its commitment to excellence in Korean language education.🏆

In a recent interview, Mr. Centeno shared his advice for those who are looking forward to joining next year’s Korean Speaking Contest. 𝗖𝗵𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗼𝗸 (추석), also known as 𝗞𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗸𝘀𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗮𝘆, is one of the most cherished and meaningful holidays in Korea. It is a time when families gather to celebrate the autumn harvest, honor their ancestors, and reconnect with their roots. 🌕 🌾

This year, Chuseok is observed from 𝗦𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟮𝟰 (𝗧𝗵𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆) 𝘁𝗼 𝗦𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟮𝟲 (𝗦𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗱𝗮𝘆), with Chuseok Day falling on 𝗦𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟮𝟱 (𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘆). 🗓️

Traditionally, families travel to their hometowns to pay respect to their ancestors through rituals such as Charye (차례) and Seongmyo (성묘). It is also a time to share seasonal delicacies like songpyeon (송편) and jeon (전), and participate in cultural traditions including ssireum (씨름) wrestling and ganggangsullae (강강술래) circle dancing under the full moon.✨
