Peninsulares Research Ethics Committee

PCHRD, PHREB Grant Level 1 Accreditation to BPSU-PREC

The Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (PCHRD) and the Philippine Health Research Ethics Board (PHREB) granted a Level I Accreditation to BPSU Peninsulares Research Ethics Committee. The approval was sent on March 8, 2016 and the formal awarding was on March 16, 2018 during the 36th Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (PCHRD) Anniversary held at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC), Manila, Philippines.

The 36th PCHRD Anniversary carried the theme “Research on Social Innovations in Health” and highlighted the awarding ceremony of the newly accredited Research Ethics Committee. This year, a total of seven Level 3, five Level 2, and three Level 1 were recognized during the event.

For Level 3, the following were accredited: Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center, Far Eastern University- Nicanor Reyes Medical Foundation, National Kidney and Transplant Institute, Lung Center of the Philippines, St. Cabrini Medical Center- Asian Eye Institute, and University of the Philippines-Manila. On the other hand, Level 2 Accreditation was awarded to Tropical Disease Foundation- Institutional Review Board, Batangas Medical Center, Davao Medical School Foundation - Hospital Ethics Committee, and De La Salle University-Manila. Whereas, Level 1 Accreditation was given to Bataan Peninsula State University, Ateneo de Zamboanga University and University of San Agustin, Iloilo City.

Also, gracing the event was the presence of the following key officials: Hon. Fortunato T. Dela Peña, Secretary of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST); Dr. Jaime C. Montoya Executive Director of the Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (PCHRD); and Dr. Bernadette Ramirez, a Scientist affiliated to the World Health Organization-Tropical Disease Research.
