"I would rather die on my feet than live on my knees."
— Ninoy Aquino

Today, we commemorate an individual but also a remarkable choice he made in his life. It is the choice of taking a stand against oppression when everyone else chooses silence. It is the choice of speaking the truth at a time when silence would have been so much safer. It is the choice of loving his country above his own life.

The Great Filipino patriot Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr. once said that Filipinos are worth dying for. And on August 21, 1983 he proved it. He prepared himself for the ultimate sacrifice.

Ninoy was fully aware of the high risk of his life upon returning to the country. However, he still went his way and went ahead of the belief that someone must fight for its freedom, that one is not something to be given freely. Instead, the assassination of Ninoy has awakened something in the eyes of the Filipinos, the hero dormant within them. It reminded them that tyranny will always prevail when good men will remain silent and do nothing, and that the sacrifice of one person can alter the eyes and conscience of millions.

Decades have passed, yet, his legacy remains alive. It lives in the freedom that was given to us and the one we enjoy today, in the right to speak our voices, and in the duty to not let anyone step on our rights and to defend our democracy whenever it is threatened.

Even in the present days, it is possible to see the impact of Ninoy’s struggles in the social and political situation in the Philippines. Ninoy did not die in vain.

His death eventually became the cornerstone of our freedom

Therefore, let us honor him not just by remembering his death, but by living his truth: that our country is worth fighting for, worth standing up for, and always, worth loving.

Mabuhay ang Pilipinas, Mabuhay ang Filipino!

Happy Ninoy Aquino Day!!

This program gives the youth a hands-on insight and experience of working with the government, how it operates, and leadership.

The GAIS representatives are; Julie Ann Martinez, Patrick Concepcion, and Kennedy Tolentino from Grade 12, and Nikko Robine Antonio from Grade 11.

Each representative acquired a position. Martinez was chosen as a Councilor, Concepcion as a Municipal Planning and Development Coordinator (MPDC), Tolentino as the Chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP Chief), and lastly, Antonio as an officer in the Department of the Internal and Local Government (DILG)

Concepcion says that the experience was thrilling and new to them all.

"Nakakakaba siya na nakaka-excite at the same time. Ang daming tao doon na lahat lahat magagaling talaga, tsaka 'di namin alam yung works na gagawin since bago kami sa ganon, pero na-eexcite naman kami. Masaya siya overall kasi ang daming tao doon na makakasalamuha." He told the GAIS bulletin.

This event is part of the preparation for the upcoming celebration of Linggo ng Kabataan 2026. On the 10th of August, Martinez, Concepcion, Tolentino, and Antonio will start their training.
