"There is no greater nation on Earth than our Motherland. No greater people than our own. Serve them with all your heart, with all your might and with all your strength.โโจ๐๏ธ๐
Today, we commemorate one of the most important events in the countryโs modern history. On August 21, 1983, Philippinesโ most prominent opposition leader against the Marcos regime, the countryโs youngest-elected governor, journalist, and Senator, Benigno โNinoyโ S. Aquino Jr. was assassinated at the Manila International Airport (now N.A.I.A.). This event marked the turning point against a 2-decade long dictatorship of Former President Ferdinand Marcos, Sr., that ruled absolute with an iron fist and ultra-corrupted interests in the country!๐ฑ
Aquino is known for his mediating methods to promote national unity and conciliation, especially between Muslims, IPs, and the government ; firm assertion that Philippines should always be a DEMOCRACY through rhetorics and requests for a peaceful change in the Marcos regime. While this event sparked a movement that will topple the darkest administration the country ever had, it was also a sad moment in history, as the country lost one of its greatest modern-day heroes and political figures.๐ต๐ญ
