It is important to teach them with patience and believe that they can learn.
Wyldrick's Learning Center
Wyldrick's Learning Center is a private therapy and tutorial center providing services for children
Sometimes, keeping it simple is the best way. In autism, repetition is the norm.but it should be in the appropriate moment and in a way that promotes retention.
When kids with autism grow out of school age, they run out of options in terms of learning. It is imperative to give them the chance to learn life skills to be able to be independent enough even without their primary caregivers.
Just remember, you are not alone. As parents, it is comforting that there other parents who are in the same boat. Lets help each other.
While WLC is on indefinite hiatus, we are “cooking” something for our kids in baguio-benguet area. We are on the early stages of planning for our return and one of the ideas that seem to make sense is going beyond the school age of children and help individuals in the autism spectrum prepare for the reality of losing their parents. We get that not all kids have the proper support and that fact motivates us to bring that support to those that need it. Training beyond school is one of the hardest thing to find. So this is a sneak peek to what we are planning for. No time table because we want to do this the right way and it will be for life. - WLC
April is Autism awareness month. Even if we dont exist physically anymore, we will still do our best to share experiences to parents like us who go through the same path. WLC will still be here. Thank you, parents. You are the best!
Expectation AND Reality
WLC parents and students,
The painful uncomfortable hard truth
We founded WLC with the belief that our children, Wyl and Adrick, deserves to live in a world where, despite their condition, they will be accepted and be treated fairly with kindness and empathy. WLC’s mission is to primarily give kids like Wyl and Adrick, a place where they can be themselves, learn and be with other kids, and give parents the help and support they desperately need. We have adhered to this path since day1, giving practical advices based on our experiences to parents, countless outreach programs, information dissemination drives to barangays and other local govt units, providing flexible and fair price points for our services to the point of negatively impacting our meager finances. all while maintaining quality of services to our WLC kids.
The hard truth: for 7 years, we endured storms, downturns and trudged through a rollercoaster-like road to the present. Keyword: endured. We managed to withstand those storms. For context, we dont want to specify but when we say storm, it is the “when it rains, it pours” kind of situation where, despite our noble intentions, human nature never fail to show the nastiest side in every possible way. From other learning centers circulating false narratives to a few disgruntled parents who felt they can bend us to their will, even threatening us with “ipapasara namin kayo, may connection kami sa gobyerno” or “may kilala kaming matataas na tao”. We fought for our morals and we stand by our principles. But in the end, the hard truth, is we are also human. We get exhausted and tired. And despite all the good intentions of supposedly sharing this advocacy to every parent with a child in the spectrum, we feel like we also dont deserve all these.
The painful truth: while we had every intention to be the best possible learning center for these children, WLC was not perfect. Far from it. But with every shortcoming, we came back better. Every mistake, we learned and adjusted. Every misstep, we came back stronger. WLC is miles better now than in day1. With that said, everything has a limit.
The uncomfortable truth: this is not the only reason but it is one of the main reasons. You dear parents probably dont know this but To explain, we poured in hard earned money for our capital to start WLC. And have been infusing funds just to keep it going. Meaning we did not, at any point of its existence, made profit off WLC. It bled resources. We sold properties, assets and acquired liabilities and even went in debt. We even tried looking for investors from parents at some point. Luck and resourcefulness, and a lot of generous souls, contributed to 7 years of seemingly steady road. However, we’ve reached a point where we, as an entity, cant continue to absorb the economic blows and maintain the same level of quality that we strive to provide. And that in turn, affected the workforce. We can no longer grant our teachers their requests of “more” than what we are currently providing them. It will be a disservice to our cause to provide high quality service to our kids and not give the teachers the benefits that they think they deserve.
So dear parents, we regret to inform you that WLC will be closing its doors. Thank you for 7 wonderful years. And yes, while we are saying goodbye, we will never say never. In fact, down the road, we might come back in some form or another, sooner or later. So again, thank you and God bless.
