UB Science High Batch 2006 Alumnus Inspires Grade 7 Students During Cantata Practice

The University of Baguio Science High School welcomed back one of its distinguished alumni, Mr. Rigor Lois Alamar, Prime Minister of Batch 2006 and now a Senior Account Manager at Shell Energy Philippines, Inc., as he visited the Grade 7 students during their Cantata practice.

Mr. Alamar, a BS Materials Engineering graduate from the University of the Philippines Diliman, took the time to share encouraging words with his “Adings.” He spoke warmly about making the most of their high school journey—building meaningful friendships, choosing the right circle, and staying grounded despite the many pressures that young people face today.

He emphasized the importance of surrounding oneself with good influences:
“As early as now, choose the right friends to go with. Don’t let peer pressure push you toward temptations. Find people who help you grow.”

Reflecting on his own experiences, he shared how being with the right community in college helped him succeed. He reminded students that while they may still be unsure about what career path to take, they should start by discovering what truly makes them happy. He also acknowledged the reality that some students feel pressured by expectations, but encouraged them to follow their strengths and passions.

Mr. Alamar also highlighted the value of discipline—a virtue instilled in him by both his family and his teachers at UB Science High.
“Our teachers were strict because they wanted the best for us. Discipline isn’t just for school; you carry it into college, work, and life,” he shared.

Above all, he left the students with a simple yet powerful reminder:
“Being nice is free. It doesn’t cost anything.”

His visit not only motivated the Grade 7 learners but also sparked a sense of pride among the UB Science High community, proving once again that the school’s legacy lives on through its alumni who continue to inspire the next generation.

In every draw and release of her bow, Michiko Gonzales learned that strength isn’t just in the arm—it’s in the heart that never gives up.

For 17-year-old Michiko, every arrow she releases carries not just precision but also passion, sacrifice, and the weight of representing the Summer Capital with pride.

For her, winning five medals (four gold, one silver, and one bronze) in Batang Pinoy 2024 was more than a triumph but a result of countless hours of training, pain and perseverance.

Michiko grew up watching her sisters train in archery as her journey began at home. “At first it was funny because I was kind of forced into it, but it led me to learn so many things and travel to many places,” she said.

Her road to Batang Pinoy 2024 wasn’t smooth because at that time, she was recovering from dislocated shoulders and undergoing physical therapy, but she pushed through with unwavering determination.

For Michiko, that was a significant part of her journey, it’s a reminder of how much she can do when she refuses to give up.

When she finally secured her victory at Batang Pinoy 2024, she knew it was more than a win and the beginning of a new chapter.

Now part of the national team, Michiko continues to aim higher by proving that every dream, with enough courage and faith, is within reach.

From being a little girl watching her sisters train to becoming one of Baguio’s finest archers, Michiko Gonzales’ journey is one drawn with patience, perseverance, and purpose.
