Was a very productive weekend in our 1905 home. Landscaping is about complete, around the actual house anyway. 16,000 pounds of Aqua Granite stone (1.5 inch) put in place. We are very happy with the outcome. We did have help (last pic). We are sore!!

Hi all! My potential contractor is suggesting we keep this 30 yr old seldom used garden tub as we update our bathroom for our latter years. We will convert our fiberglass shower unit to some type of tile with a door rather than sliding doors and get more usable space. New tile flooring is the thought with new paint overall. I think we will go back to popcorn or some other more moisture resistant ceiling too. New double sinks and cabinets. I think that the old tub will make the renovation look half done in the end. It appears to have cracking around the rusting(?) drain too. It is hard for me to know if it makes sense financially to keep the old one or if he wants to do what is easiest for him. We have a 2200 sq ft one story brick house. So it isn’t high end. I just want it renewed and better where possible. I would love to hear from you guys on this. Keep the tub or dump it?

We just bought this 1936 bungalow which has a good amount of work to do. The floors all need to be refinished, the dining room has horrible thick paint over the wood on the corner cabinets, China cabinets and trim. We also need to add an additional bathroom upstairs , paint (I’m not a fan of all the white) and a list of mostly cosmetic items. I’m looking for suggestions on curb appeal (landscape will be happening- my husband owns a landscape company), paint colors inside , and anyone who has added a bathroom to an old house. Anything we should be aware of? We also need to put a tv in the front room with all the windows and I really don’t want it over the fireplace!

Hello, not posted in a while. Here’s a few newly decorated rooms to browse along with the old ones. I have a question for you all: when you were first buying your old house, and you knew there would be more costs associated with it than a newer house, how did you go about making peace with that decision? I feel like emotionally, my husband and I are in love with this house, and even after looking at other ones it’s this one that we keep coming back to. It feels RIGHT. But financially it’s a little scary. I know to restore it is going to take a lot of money, and time, and work. We are trying to find a contractor familiar with old homes to do a pre-offer walk through with us to figure out the full extent of what we are looking at, but scenes from “The Money Pit” with Tom Hanks keep flashing in my mind 😂
UPDATE: had the home inspection today and it went much better than I was prepared for! Honestly nothing major! 😅 The roof has a few years left but we may want to just redo it now while we’re financially able to. Other than that it’s just a lot of projects that we can do ourselves or hire out as needed. Putting an offer in, cross your fingers for us please! This place has claimed our hearts. ❤️
