PSHS-CARC Joins Lingkod Bayani Run 2026 for the First Time, Teacher Bags Top Spot in 10km Women's Category
BAGUIO CITY — The Philippine Science High School – Cordillera Administrative Region Campus (PSHS-CARC) marked a milestone this year, joining the nationwide Lingkod Bayani Run for the first time since the campus was established.
Twenty-six PSHS-CARC students and personnel took part in the run held on Sunday, September 13, 2026, at Lake Drive, Burnham Park, as part of a nationwide fun run initiative of the Civil Service Commission (CSC) commemorating the 126th anniversary of the Philippine Civil Service.
The campus's first-ever participation proved to be a strong one: Gineth Calis of PSHS-CARC placed first in the 10km Women's category, giving the school one of the standout results of the day.
About the Run
The Lingkod Bayani Run raises funds for the CSC's Pamanang Lingkod Bayani (PLBi) Program, which supports the families of government workers who died in the line of duty. Beneficiary families receive a ₱100,000 grant along with a college scholarship for a dependent.
The Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) has reportedly recorded the highest number of PLBi beneficiaries in the country since 2010/2011 — a detail organizers point to when highlighting the region's continued engagement with the program. Government employees who joined the run may also be granted a One-Day Compensatory Overtime Credit (COC), at the discretion of their head of office, in line with CSC-DBM Joint Circular No. 2, s. 2004.
Baguio Leg by the Numbers
A total of 864 participants joined the Baguio leg of the run across the 3km, 5km, and 10km categories, drawing government employees, students, running clubs, and community groups.
Special recognition also went to the organizations with the highest number of participants:
Baguio Water District (BAWADI) – 30 participants
La Trinidad Water District (LTWD) – 37 participants
Baguio General Hospital (BGH) – 61 participants
Organizers noted that many of the day's top finishers came from the student population, local running groups, and community organizations—reflecting the run's growing appeal beyond government offices alone.
Looking Ahead
Alongside the race, a small information booth and flyer distribution effort was set up near the stage and podium at Lake Drive, Burnham Park, promoting the upcoming National Competitive Examination of the Philippine Science High School System.
With PSHS-CARC's strong showing in its debut year, organizers expressed hope that more schools and community groups will join future runs in support of the PLBi Program.
