Today is the last day of our PReMIERS Fellows at the QuICMaPP Facility!
But before they complete their remaining tasks at the facility, the fellows enjoy a quick visit at Museo Kordilyera, UP Baguioโs ethnographic museum. We thank Museo Kordilyera for welcoming our PReMIERS Fellows with a guided tour of the museum!
This afternoon, the fellows will be performing their final round of AI deployment to their field data to generate counts and classification of both macro- and microplastics. Tomorrow, they will head back to the Microbial Oceanography Laboratory where they will start the analysis of their initial results and write their reports about their work!

The QuICMaPP Facility congratulates its student assistant, Mark James Canilang for being a recipient of the prestigious 2024 Global Undergraduate Exchange (Global UGRAD) Program scholarship in the United States administered by World Learning and the Philippine-American Educational Foundation (Fulbright Commission in the Philippines)!
He is one of only eight successful nominees from more than a thousand applicants for this coveted award. The Global UGRAD Program, funded by the US Department of State, grants students a semester-long non-degree academic, cultural, and leadership exchange in the USA. Jas will be attending Endicott College in Massachusetts, USA, as an international exchange student to pursue Applied Mathematics courses for the Spring 2025 semester.
Congratulations, Jas! ๐ฅณ
We are super proud of you!!! ๐คฉโค๏ธ

QuICMaPP Facility welcomes the 2024 PReMIERS Program Fellows!!!
The Plastics Research Methods Internship and Educational Research Stay Program is a comprehensive training and internship program for graduate students pursuing their thesis or dissertation related to plastics research. It includes an all-expenses paid two-month research visits to the Circular Explorer, the MicroQUIB Facility at the Bolinao Marine Laboratory, and the QuICMaPP Facility at UP Baguio. The fellows also receive focused mentorship from a core group of advisers.
At the QuICMaPP Facility, the PReMIERS fellows are scheduled to complete their hands-on training on finetuning, evaluating, and deploying AI-based models to detect and classify both macro- and microplastics on various datasets.
The PReMIERS Program is made possible through the partnership of the UP Marine Science Institute Microbial Oceanography Laboratory, UPB College of Science through the Quicmapp Facility, the Circular Explorer and Holcim Inc.
