Project Og-Ogfo, in collaboration with Kasiyana and all School Assemblies, is once again launching a meaningful donation driveโ€”this time dedicated to supporting our jeepney drivers who continue to bear the brunt of the ongoing oil price hike crisis.

As fuel prices surge, daily wage transport workers are pushed deeper into financial hardship. Policies such as oil deregulation, along with VAT and excise taxes on fuel, continue to intensify this burden, while calls to address these systemic issues remain largely unheard. Recent measures, such as fare discounts, further strain drivers whose earnings are already unstable.

In this light, we appeal for your open hearts and solidarity. Any amount can go a long way in helping sustain the livelihoods of our jeepney drivers during this crisis.

In a collaborative effort to empower the next generation of tourism professionals, the Department of Tourismโ€“Cordillera Administrative Region (DOT-CAR), in partnership with Saint Louis University (SLU), University of Baguio (UB), and the University of the Cordilleras (UC), successfully conducted eight (8) sessions of the Filipino Brand of Service Excellence (FBSE) Training to a total of 485 tourism and hospitality students throughout the month of March 2026.

Students from the aforesaid institutions participated in the training to deepen their understanding of delivering world-class service rooted in Filipino values such as respect, empathy, and genuine hospitality. This initiative underscores the shared commitment of academic institutions and the tourism sector in preparing students to become competent and service-oriented industry professionals.

Through the FBSE program, participants gained practical knowledge and developed a strong service mindsetโ€”essential qualities they can carry into their future careers in the tourism and hospitality industry. Instilling these principles early in their academic journey equips them with the right attitude, professionalism, and standards expected of tourism frontliners.

The DOT-CAR believes that in investing in todayโ€™s students, we are shaping a new generation of professionals who will proudly represent the warmth and excellence of Filipino hospitality on the global tourism stage.

BAGUIO DRIVERS PUT COMMUTERS' WELFARE ABOVE STRIKES

BAGUIO CITY โ€” While rising fuel prices continue to squeeze drivers across the country, transport groups in the city are choosing a different road, one that keeps commuters moving.

Leaders of local public utility vehicle (PUV) federations strongly claim that they will not take part in the planned transport strike led by PISTON, stressing that halting operations would only hurt the riding public.

Rey Bacoco, president of the Baguio PUV Transport Corp., said most operators in the city, whether running public utility jeepneys (PUJs) or utility vehicles (UVs), have long stood firm against strikes, whether local or nationwide.

For them, the decision revovles around one simple truth. The burden would fall hardest on commuters.

In these dire times when transport costs are rising and earnings remain uncertain, Baguio drivers are absorbing the pressure instead of passing it on to passengers. The stance reflects a quiet but firm commitment to keeping routes open even when margins tighten.

Across the country, transport strikes are often used to demand government intervention during crises like fuel price hikes. But in Baguio, operators are taking a more cautious approach, weighing protest against public impact.

Hence, no transport shutdown, no stranded workers, no disrupted routines.

Even as challenges mount, Baguioโ€™s drivers are choosing service over stoppage, proving that in the middle of a fuel crisis, the cityโ€™s transport sector is still putting commuters first.
