CAC, CSS academic programs on deck for AUN-QA assessment
The College of Arts and Communication (CAC) and the College of Social Sciences (CSS) of the University of the Philippines Baguio (UPB) went through an assessment of their respective bachelor’s degree programs under the auspices of the ASEAN University Network-Quality Assurance (AUN-QA) system.
External assessors from various Southeast Asian universities visited UPB on January 20-22, to evaluate the CAC’s Bachelor of Arts in Language and Literature (BALL), Bachelor of Arts in Communication (BA Comm), and Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) programs, and the Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences (BASS) program of the CSS.
Headed by chief assessor Prem Anand M. Arjunan, experts from universities in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Vietnam held site visits, meetings, and interviews with key stakeholders to determine the academic programs’ responsiveness towards its learners, as well as its larger community impact.
Towards this end, the assessors held interviews with the college administrators, academic staff, support staff, students, former faculty members, alumni, including firms and establishments that employed graduates from these cited programs.
The assessors inquired into the alignment of program learning outcomes against individual course learning outcomes. They also looked into the adequacy of learning resources to meet learning outcomes.
The assessors presented their preliminary findings before the university faculty and staff on the last day of their visit. Chancellor Joel M. Addawe acknowledged that the AUN-QA assessment of programs is always a process of intense scrutiny but necessary to re-calibrate academic programs towards the need of the times.
