🤰🏼📍Placental Locations
so many families ask what it means when we say their placenta is in an “Anterior” or “Posterior” location.

I drafted this so I could help them understand, but hopefully it helps you too!

❓❔Where was your placenta located?

✨ ✨ ✨
“In between two worlds.” We see this caption so often on birth photos, and really it seems like the most perfect way to describe what is happening. For both birther and baby, labor and birth are the ultimate transformation. Both exist in between two states of being, in the liminal space of neither here nor there, neither this nor that. They truly are simply “in between.”

They are a unit of one inside another about to become to discrete individuals. One stands on the precipice of parenthood, the other in the doorway of life. For the baby, they are making a momentous transition from the small, dark, warm world of the womb to the expansive, bright world outside, full of noise and gravity, hands and voices. But at the moment of birth, they are suspended between these worlds, both coming and going, leaving and arriving.

When we think of this incredible moment of tension, this suspension between before and after, of coming into life and leaving whatever comes before, how can we not be forever in awe of birth? We are given the opportunity to witness this alchemy over and over, each time being transformed a little more ourselves by its magic.

“Divine Touch. The hands of her parents along with the warmth of the placenta that grew her, sustained her. Birth takes my breath away. Over and over again.”
