ISANG MAPAGPALANG PAGBATI SA LAHAT!

Ipinagbibigay-alam namin mula sa Departamento ng Filipino ang opisyal na pagbubukas at pagdaraos ng taunang District Schools Press Conference 2026 na gaganapin ngayong darating na Agosto 17, 2026 (Lunes), mula ika-8:00 ng umaga hanggang ika-5:00 ng hapon.

Ang taunang kumperensiyang ito ay naglalayong itaguyod ang kahalagahan ng mapanuri, tapat, at responsableng pamamahayag sa antas ng sekondarya. Ito rin ang magsisilbing entablado upang ipamalas ng ating mga natatanging mag-aaral ang kanilang galing sa iba't ibang indibidwal na kategorya at pangkatang paligsahan.

The road to the Division Schools Press Conference starts here.

The Badian District Secondary Schools Press Conference will be held on Monday, August 17, 2026 to select the Top 3 qualifiers in each individual category who will represent the Badian District in the Division Schools Press Conference (DSPC) on September 8–11, 2026, in the Municipality of Carmen, Cebu.

As Badian National High School is currently the only secondary school in the district with a registered school publication, the participants for this district-level press conference will be the current members of The Horizon–English and the qualifiers from the recent school-based press conference.

EXCUSE LETTER

Excuse letters will be available at the ALAV Hall starting at 8:00 AM.

Participants should get their excuse letter before their scheduled competition and give it ahead of time to the subject teacher whose class they will miss.

Please do not wait until after your competition to submit it. Make sure your subject teacher has received the excuse letter before your scheduled time.

PHOTOJOURNALISM:

We will be following the prescribed competition guidelines in preparation for the Division Schools Press Conference.

Participants MUST BRING THEIR OWN CAMERA.

The following are allowed:

β€’ Digicam / point-and-shoot camera
β€’ Entry-level DSLR

High-end or professional cameras and cellphones are NOT allowed for the Photojournalism competition.

Please make sure you have the required camera before coming to the competition.

EDITORIAL CARTOONING:

PENCIL ONLY.
Please bring your pencil. No other drawing or coloring materials are allowed.

RADIO BROADCASTING:

Radio Broadcasting is a group category.

For the announcement and further instructions, please see Mrs. Jesserie Jay V. Inot at Grade 7–OsmeΓ±a classroom on Wednesday, August 19, from 12:45–1:30 PM.

PLEASE COME ON TIME. Punctuality is a must. Be at the venue before your scheduled competition. Once the competition for a category has started, late participants will no longer be accepted.

Please give yourself enough time to register, get your excuse letter and proceed to your assigned venue.

And one last reminder: read this announcement carefully. Campus journalism is not only about writing well or having good ideas. It also means knowing how to read, understand and follow instructions.

Come prepared, bring the required materials and be on time.

Important reminders:

ALL QUALIFIERS ARE NOT YET AUTOMATIC MEMBERS OF THE HORIZON–ENGLISH. Everyone who qualified, regardless of category, will undergo the District Press Conference next week. The final list of members will be determined only after the District Press Conference, based on the results and available slots.

πŸ“· FOR PHOTOJOURNALISM: As part of our preparation for the Division Schools Press Conference, cellphones will NO LONGER BE ALLOWED for photojournalism. Those who will continue in the category must have access to a digital camera or entry-level DSLR for the District Presscon.

Think you've got what it takes? The Horizon–English is looking for its newest members!

Whether you love writing, speaking, taking photos, drawing, editing, or creating digital content, there's a place for you on our team.

Some of you already have experience. Some of you are just beginning. Both are welcome here. Experience is an advantage, but it isn't a requirement. More than anything, we're looking for students who are passionate about learning, open to coaching, committed to improving, and ready to give their best. The rest, we'll learn together.

Choose your category:

News Writer – Report events, interview sources, verify information, and write clear, accurate news stories.

Editorial Writer – Got something to say? Turn your opinions into thoughtful editorials that make people think.

Feature Writer – Tell the stories behind the people, places, and moments that deserve to be remembered.

Sports Writer – Love sports? Cover the action, celebrate athletes, and tell the stories behind the game.

Science and Technology Writer – Make Science, technology, and innovation interesting and easy to understand.

Column Writer – Turn your thoughts, opinions, and experiences into stories worth reading.

Photojournalist – Love taking photos? Turn your snapshots into stories. Don't have a camera yet? That's okay! You may use a cellphone camera during the screening. If accepted, you should have access to an entry-level DSLR, mirrorless camera, or point-and-shoot (digicam) for school coverage and competitions.

Radio Broadcaster & Scriptwriter – Be the voice behind the news and write scripts that inform and engage.

Mobile Journalist – Create news stories using your smartphone through photos, videos, and interviews.

Editorial Cartoonist – Let your drawings speak louder than words.

Copyreader & Headline Writer – Spot mistakes, polish articles, and write headlines that grab attention.

Collaborative Desktop Publisher & Online Publisher – Love editing, designing, and creating layouts? Basic knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, or Adobe PageMaker is an advantage but not required. If you're creative, tech-savvy, and have an eye for design and layout, we'd love to have you on the team.
