The first day of FDCP Film Education Convention 2026 that took place on September 25, 2026, in De La Salle University-Manila gathered students, professors, filmmakers, and other participants from various institutes of the country. The introduction to the program and its discussion reflect the value of learning outside the classroom and making connections and honoring the voices from different regions of Philippine cinema.
The introduction to the program consisted of the welcome speech given by Director Jose Javier Reyes, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP). He motivated participants of the convention to take advantage of the event and interact with students and professors of various educational institutes. He pointed out that โYour learning is not limited within the classroom.โ
This was followed by the welcome message of Mr. Ador R. Torneo, Ph.d., a professor and the Dean of College of Liberal Arts of De La Salle University - Manila. He encouraged everyone to listen closely to the speakers because they are respected filmmakers who have made films that helped the Philippine film industry.
As we reached the first panel discussion at the FDCP Film Education Convention, producer Jo Andrew Torlao introduces his co-speakers, renowned directors and filmmakers from different parts of the country: Direct Tim Rone Villanueva, Direct Daniel Dela Cruz, and Direct Bagana Fiola, as they discuss filmmaking, personal experiences, and the importance of regional cinema representation in the Philippine film industry.
