The Fernando F. Gonzaga Elementary School successfully conducted its four-day Mid-Year In-Service Training (INSET) from November 19, 20, 27 & 28, 2025. The activity aimed to strengthen teacher competencies across grade levels and enhance instructional delivery in alignment with the MATATAG Curriculum. Designed as a school-based professional development program, the Mid-Year INSET provided teachers with targeted training in literacy, numeracy, research, innovation, instructional assessment, and materials development.

The success of the Mid-Year INSET was made possible through the organized efforts of all committees. Led by INSET Training Overall Chairperson Ma’am Alyssa Christelle M. Senining and Co-Chairman Ma’am Geralyn N. Katalbas, all committees—from Program, Documentation, Certificates, to Accommodation and Cleanliness—fulfilled their responsibilities with dedication and teamwork.

Day 1 – November 19, 2025

The opening program, facilitated by the Grade One Teachers, formally commenced the training. This was followed by a Levelling of Expectations led by Ma’am Geralyn N. Katalbas, who aligned the goals of the four-day training with the professional development needs of teachers. Her session emphasized teamwork, growth mindset, and active participation.

After the health break, the Kinder Teachers conducted an engaging Unfreezing Activity to energize participants.

• Research-based strategies on cognitive development in reading and mathematics
• The role of teachers in strengthening foundational skills across key stages

Mr. Pagubo emphasized evidence-based teaching practices, reinforcing the importance of aligning classroom instruction with national policies. The day ended with an open forum, giving teachers the opportunity to clarify concerns and receive final instructions.

Day 2 – November 20, 2025

After lunch, the Grade Two Teachers conducted another unfreezing activity which prepared the participants for the next collaborative tasks for the day. The entire afternoon was dedicated to continued discussions and refinements of research and innovation outputs guided by the speaker and facilitators.

Day 3 – November 27, 2025

The session started with attendance checking and an energizing activity by the Grade Five Teachers.

Her discussion gave emphasis to:
• Designing valid and reliable formative and summative assessments
• Utilizing learning evidence to improve instruction
• Providing meaningful and constructive feedback that promotes learner growth
• Aligning assessments with learning competencies under the MATATAG Curriculum

Teachers participated in hands-on activities in crafting assessment tools and analyzing sample learner outputs.

In the afternoon, a creative unfreezing activity was led by the Grade Three Teachers before proceeding to the session facilitated by Ma’am Analee V. Tiapon, Principal I of Rafael Alunan Elementary School. She discussed “Development of Literacy Intervention Materials Across Key Stages.”
Key topics included:
• Identifying literacy gaps and learner needs
• Designing contextualized and developmentally appropriate reading materials
• Integrating interventions into regular classroom instruction
• Monitoring learner progress using literacy tools

Teachers were given time to conceptualize and start drafting their own literacy intervention materials. The day concluded with an open forum.

Day 4 – November 28, 2025

The final day began with attendance checking followed by an unfreezing activity by the Grade Six Teachers.

The Closing Program, prepared by the Grade Four Teachers, provided recognition to speakers, facilitators, and participants. Reflections were shared, highlighting improved collaboration, deeper understanding of instructional development, and renewed commitment to quality teaching.

The Mid-Year In-Service Training for S.Y. 2025–2026 provided teachers with enriched learning on literacy and numeracy foundations, research and innovation, assessment design, and materials development. The sessions strengthened teachers’ instructional competencies and promoted a collaborative learning community within FFGES. Through this training, teachers are now better equipped to implement integrative, responsive, and learner-centered pedagogies aligned with MATATAG goals.

The four-day INSET successfully fulfilled its purpose: enhancing teacher capacity to deliver quality, relevant, and meaningful learning experiences for every FFGES learner. ❤️
